A Day in the Life
Perform electromechanical product development on capital medical equipment designs
Lead requirements generation and management (Use of Jama / DOORS)
Integrate electronic components with mechanical designs
Prepare full documentation in accordance with relevant internal SOPs and Design Control.
Interact with suppliers, participates in DFM and DFA processes to access component and assembly manufacturability.
Participate in FMEAs and follows up on generated recommendations.
Design, assemble and evaluate prototypes.
Write engineering reports and creates presentations as required to document and communicate results.
Institute design changes based on internal and external customer feedback.
Collaborate with peers to manage the development of appropriate testing to verify product meets internal and external customer requirements.
Communicate with electrical, software, clinical, manufacturing and test engineers.
Resolve of conflicts between test data, sub-system and system requirements
Utilize mechanical CAD proficiency, esp Creo (Pro/Engineer)
Participate in part modeling, print generation
Component validation / PPAP processes
Interact with a contract manufacturer
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
You must hold a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Science or Technical discipline required plus minimum of 5+ years relevant experience.
Nice to Have:
Previous medical device experience, ideally with medical device capital equipment design and development
Experience in systems engineering and mechanical design
Understanding of medical device industry and competitor products
Understanding of clinical and regulatory pathways, IP and internal processes.
Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Effectively communicate and works cooperatively with others as part of a team.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes including sheetmetal forming, polymer thermoforming, metal casting, paint and finishing, injection molding, machining, extrusions.
Mastery of statistical process control in mass production as well as Six Sigma (DFSS) for design validation and optimization.
Outstanding abilities with and wide application of drafting practices, GD&T, 1D tolerance analysis and 3D analysis.
Prior experience designing to meet IEC60601 testing.
History of working with formal engineering requirements in DOORS, Jama or similar software
In-depth knowledge and experience with 3D CAD software (ProE preferred).
In-depth knowledge of FEA software, CE-Tol, Minitab, MathCad, LabView.
Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Business Administration (MBA)
Standard office setting, surgical lab, operating room, pilot lab, supplier visits
Distributed R&D teams
Some travel may be required, mostly to Boston, MA
