THE OPPORTUNITY

As the Senior Quality Engineer, you are responsible for developing and maintaining quality engineering methodologies and providing quality engineering support within new product development, manufacturing, or system/services support for the Tipp City Nutrition manufacturing site.

This position is a full-time, on-site, short-term position dedicated to the expansion project team. At project completion, this role will be absorbed and the employee will be directed to apply for a current opening within Abbott that matches their qualifications. We expect to provide support to the person to assist them with their search for another opportunity within the company. Targeted project completion is at the end of 2026.

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

  • Identify and implement effective process control systems to support the development and qualification of a new production line to meet or exceed internal and external requirements

  • Lead process monitoring and control of Critical to Quality parameters and specifications

  • Participate in or lead teams in supporting quality decisions and practices (e.g., represent the Quality function as a Core Team Member)

  • Design and conduct experiments for process optimization and/or improvement

  • Appropriately document experiment plans and results, including protocol writing and reports

  • Work with design engineering in the completion of product verification and validation

  • Work with packaging to ensure the appropriate process controls are considered in the product and process development activities

  • Support all Divisional initiatives as identified by divisional management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements

  • Provide design and front-end planning input to project teams related to sanitation and cGMPs for new/upgraded/changed plant areas/equipment/facilities.

  • Assures area of responsibility complies with cGMP's, FDA regulations and other practices outlined by federal statutes or other regulatory/certifying agencies.

  • Assure Food Safety hazard analysis, procedural changes, and other Food Safety related activities are conducted for all new and/or upgraded plant systems, equipment, or facilities.

  • Help to design and implement new and revised quality processes, procedures, facility/equipment additions/changes/upgrades to sustain compliance with the changing business needs.

  • Assess the impact of new/upgraded/changed plant areas have across the Quality Systems of the plant and work with those area leaders to incorporate those changes into routine operations.

  • Review equipment changes, validation packages, preventive and routine maintenance work orders and other related documents specific to their area of responsibility including new plant areas or plant/equipment/facility upgrades and changes.

  • Assist in the development and execution of streamlined business systems which effectively identify and resolve quality issues

  • Apply sound, systematic problem-solving methodologies in identifying, prioritizing, communicating, and resolving quality issues

  • Lead in the completion and maintenance of risk analysis

  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities, on occasion, as assigned

  • Basic understanding of plant and facility operations with an extensive background in cGMP's and Food Safety in a food manufacturing environment.

  • You'll also be accountable for providing excellent customer service to the production teams and meeting our compliance standards including FDA, OSHA and Abbott policies and procedures.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering or related technical field OR an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • 5+ years relevant experience

  • Engineering experience and demonstrated use of Quality tools/methodologies

  • Detailed knowledge of FDA, GMP, ISO 13485, and ISO 14971

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

  • Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects

  • Strong project management and leadership skills, including the demonstrated ability to lead multi-departmental project teams and resolve quality-related issues in a timely and effective manner

  • Advanced computer skills, including statistical/data analysis and report writing skills

  • Experience implementing various product and process improvement methodologies (e.g., Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing).

  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner

  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills, as well as attention to detail

  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior food manufacturing experience

  • Basic HACCP Certification, Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) Certified, ASQ CQE or other certifications

  • Prior filling, blow molding or packaging experience with liquid product

  • Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 - $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
