Position name Quality Engineer Business Unit / VP USA/CAN Position to which it reports Quality Manager Objective The Quality Engineer is the Customer Representative, and has the responsibility and authority to ensure that customer requirements are addressed. Responsible for selection of special characteristics, setting quality objectives and related training. Main responsibilities Responsible for maintaining communication liaison between the company and the customer engine plant quality function. Responsible for coordinating customer quality related activities within the company, including corrective and preventive action.

  • Coordinate company internal activities for the resolution of customer complaints and concerns.

  • Attend meetings at customer Engine Plants to resolve quality related issues.

  • Maintains direct communication contact with customer entities.

  • Prepares and maintains corrective and preventive actions for customer complaints and concerns.

  • Follows PPAP submissions and various test sample runs.

  • Monitors and communicate to company customer reported supplier performance Identifies discrepancies. Works with customer to resolve them.

  • Monitors scrap performance versus objectives, provide insights and data analysis to company for scrap defect resolution.

  • Reviews and disposition parts returned from customer.

  • Review and disposition customer financial charge backs.

  • Prepares and up-dates Process flow charts, Control Plans, PFMEA.

  • Provides support to product auditors and Dim Lab for quality related issues.

  • Monitors and communicate to plant customer quality related procedures.

  • Generate Quality Assurance Department procedures and work instructions.

  • Investigate, conducts cost-benefit analysis and propose future department capital investments for continuous improvement.

  • Measure and monitor customer satisfaction.

  • Maintain adherence to company policies and safety standards.

  • Awareness of and assure compliance to assigned Customer specific requirements.

  • Makes disposition of contained product.

  • Assures that training and development needs are identified and programs initiated.

  • Develops short and long-range objectives.

  • Function as Quality Manager as needed in his/her absence Profile requirements Education Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred Languages English Experience Minimum 3 years' experience in a manufacturing or quality related position. Job experience is to include problem solving & corrective action development and management with a teamwork approach Technical skills Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, and Power Point.

  • Proven knowledge of Statistical techniques, Process control charts, data collection and analysis for problem resolution, and of brainstorming techniques (5Why, Fishbone, etc.).

  • Good knowledge of AIAG PPAP, APQP, and automotive industry procedures Soft skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good reasoning abilities and sound judgment.

  • Good ability of planning, organizing and controlling multiple projects.

Support supplier launch activities at manufacturing locations and provide quality leadership during pre-production builds at suppliers. * Support purchasing with the supplier approval process by assessing supplier manufacturing process capabilities. Develop critical suppliers. * Perform supplier audits to drive process standardization, waste elimination and continuous improvement. * Collaborate and specify critical product requirements with Engineering, Purchasing and Marketing to translate customer needs into supplied product requirements and specifications; Define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product requirements. * Complete APQP activities with suppliers - lead risk and failure analysis to ensure functional specification requirements are fully met during design / process validation and PPAP. * Provide supplier quality support for all manufacturing sites including plant engineering teams and business units. * Assist in the development of dimensional control strategies with suppliers. * Assist in the design and procurement of gages and instruments with suppliers. * Support and coach team members in the use of fundamental APQP tools (PPAP, DFMEA, PFMEA, Reliability Test Plans and Production Control Plans). * Manage SCAR analysis, work with suppliers directly (including onsite visits) to create corrective action plans to address process failures. * Collaborate with US and International based SQE's to ensure operational readiness of new product launches. * Provide structured problem solving support - reactive (field failure or testing) and preventive (mitigate NPD risk). * Internally communicate with Engineering, Purchasing, Program Management and Product Engineering on opportunities within the supply chain for quality improvement. * Physical demands - Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and * figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes. Qualifications * 1-3 years of experience in quality engineering and related disciplines. * 1-3 years in area of implementing and applying quality tools (APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, PPAP, SPC, GD&T) in a manufacturing environment. * Minimum (1-3) years in APQP role. * 5+ years of experience in quality engineering and related disciplines. * 5 years in area of implementing and applying quality tools (APQP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, PPAP, SPC, GD&T) in a manufacturing environment. * Minimum (3+) years in APQP role. * B.S., and experience in related field. * ASQ CQE or CQA desirable * Auditor experience (ISO 9000 and TS 16949) * Structured problem solving experience (Six Sigma Black Belt or Shainin Red "X" Journeyman) desired. * Strong Minitab skills * Gage development and buy-off experience * An understanding of quality engineering requirements, quality assurance systems, diversified manufacturing processes and product evaluation techniques applied to mechanical devices. * Must work well with all levels of employees and be comfortable working on teams. * Ability and willingness to travel (domestic/international) up to 20% of the time.
