Wieland is hiring a Sr. Quality Engineer. The Sr. Quality Engineer holds the responsibility for overseeing Quality Assurance (QA) activities across two entities: Wieland Copper Products and the newly established Electronic Cooling companies. The Senior Quality Engineer is tasked with maintaining the existing ISO 9001:2015 certification while also spearheading the implementation of the new AS9100 standard for ITAR and Aerospace Products. Serving as the Quality Management System Reference for both entities, this role collaborates closely with the Design Engineering Team throughout product development to ensure compliance with customer and industry standards. The incumbent acts as the gatekeeper in the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), ensuring quality at the source, and utilizes Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) principles during product development and the initial production phase. In the event of nonconformity, the Senior Engineer manages internal and external complaints in conjunction with Process Engineering and the Sales Team, conducting thorough investigations to identify root causes and implement effective corrective actions. Additionally, this role drives continuous improvement initiatives through project implementation. The Senior Quality Engineer reports directly to the CI Manager.
This role is located in Pine Hall, NC and will be fully on-site. While this role is local, occasional travel to other locations will be required (15-25% travel).
This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations ("ITAR") and the ability to access and handle ITAR 'Technical Data' as defined by 22 CFR § 120.33 is an essential function.
Responsibilities
Sr. Quality Engineer Responsibilities:
Maintain ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100 rev D certification, SOPs, Work Instructions and Quality records.
Investigate customer complaints, applying problem-solving concepts, principles, and tools such as A3/8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa diagram, etc. to lead root cause investigations and determine effective corrective and preventative actions.
Lead all aspects of audit systems including performing on-site supplier/subcontractor visits, internal audits for the QMS and strong support of customer audits. Provide support on quality surveys and self-assessment.
Collaborate with the Design Engineering team during Design phase to insure Design for Manufacturing Product Quality Expectations.
Lead reporting of metrics/KPIs and prepare regular performance reports in support of quality improvement efforts. Identify and implement mechanisms for effective communication of quality goals and results throughout the organization.
Sr. Quality Engineer Qualifications:
Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
Deals effectively with all levels of personnel, internal and external. Maintains professional contacts with domestic and international representatives. Performs to a high level of self-discipline and ethics to protect the company's interests.
Ability to clearly communicate ideas and information orally and in writing in one on one and group situations, meetings and conducting presentations.
Strong customer relations skills to be the face of quality for the company towards all customers.
High level of entrepreneurial mindset to not just maintain, but to continuously improve the quality system.
BS in Material Science or Engineering or equivalent experience. ASQ certification desirable.
Experience in implementation of ISO certifications, PPAP, Process FMEA and Control Plan, Familiar with SAP or other IT modules to handle QC functions.
