Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is seeking a Sr Quality Assurance Engineer for our Vandenberg AFB location.

Job Summary

Implement mission/flight assurance plans for individual spacecraft flight hardware programs addressing design, manufacturing, integration, and test activities in accordance with company and contractual requirements. Works as a member of an integrated product team with Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems Safety & Mission Assurance staff in various groups to address technical issues, meet program requirements and ensure mission success.

Interface with customers, vendors, and with Northrop Grumman Manufacturing, Integration & Test and Engineering organizations to identify and resolve mission/flight assurance issues. Provide support to program Flight Assurance Manager in review of various activities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leads core quality improvement projects to build compliant and cost effective processes with sustainable improvements.

  • Implement quality plans for hardware and software addressing design, manufacturing, integration and test activities in accordance with company and contractual requirements.

  • Review practices, procedures and processes seeking avenues to improve efficiency and effectiveness and reduce risk to product quality.

  • Lead root-cause analysis, Corrective and Preventative Action solutions. Analyze and interpret trends and executes improvements on key metrics.

  • Participates in program and Mission Assurance reviews. Represents Mission Assurance at different program reviews and review boards including Configuration Control Board (CCB) and Corrective Action Board (CAB).

  • Collect and analyze data related to Risk Management activities.

  • Evaluate contract program requirements are flowed down internally and to suppliers, ensures compliance with contract program, quality and organizational requirements.

Education and Experience

Requires BS in Engineering & 4 years or Masters in Engineering & 2 years.

Other Requirements

Able to read engineering documentation and inspect drawings and parts lists, inspection plans, and supplemental instructions. Knowledge base in Cause Analysis tools, such as Ishikawa and fault tree. Previous experience working in AS/ISO/CMMI certified organization.

QUALITY INSPECTOR, LAUNCH Our quality inspectors are responsible for being the last line of defense in assuring mission success. You will perform in-process inspections and verify that all key performance and design characteristics are met or exceeded during launch preparation and recovered booster processing. You will be working hands on with the most cutting edge rocket technology currently available and will be part of history. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Perform in process and final end to end inspections on integrated booster assemblies and payloads. * Inspect, verify, and proactively support vehicle integration, in-space payload, booster recovery, and launch ground operations; assuring adherence to design, specification, and testing requirements. * Document production and test anomalies in accordance with prescribed procedures and process as required. * Communicate and help resolve quality related issues as they relate to the site and other SpaceX locations e.g. launch site, production, and test sites. * Process non-conforming product and assist engineering in root cause analysis and corrective action. * Routinely observe technical operations and offer guidance and/or serve as an additional technical resource. * Determine manufacturing compliance to NASA and customer, as well as internal, specifications to meet launch and mission requirements. * Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma. * Minimum of 2 years of inspection experience in an aerospace environment. PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: * Associate degree or higher in quality, engineering, or related field. * Military experience. * FAA Airframe and Power plant license. * Knowledge of quality assurance principles, methods, and processes. * Knowledge of avionics and electrical systems. * Knowledge of aerospace propulsion and principles. * Knowledge of aerospace structures. * Knowledge of satellite assemblies. * Knowledge of ground support equipment (GSE), fluid; mechanical systems, and general associated equipment. * Strong knowledge and experience in aerospace standards. * Intermediate level skill with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook). * Intermediate level skill with Windows operating systems. * Secret Clearance or above. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: * General physical fitness is required for some work areas, flight hardware typically is built in tight quarters and physical dexterity. * Acute attention to detail and critical thinking. * Possess a positive attitude and be willing to assist anyone at any time. * Must be willing to work long hours.
