Job Description

Job Summary:

FLIR Security Engineering is hiring a Project Manager in the Goleta location. Our Goleta location is a manufacturing hub for our high tech camera cores and having an Engineering or Electronic Manufacturing background would be beneficial. As the project manager, your job is to plan, budget, oversee and document all aspects of the specific project you are working on. Project managers may work closely with upper management to make sure that the scope and direction of each project is on schedule, as well as other departments for support. You will be working on both new product development project and sustaining product projects.

New product development projects:

  • Lead Engineering team on new product development projects.

  • Generate new product development schedule milestones, develop and manage project budget, and manage Engineering team activities, from new product concept to implementation into Manufacturing.

  • Direct interface with domestic and offshore Contract Manufacturers involved with new product development and transition into volume manufacturing.

Sustaining products Project Management:

  • Assist Manufacturing with management of legacy products which have transitioned into volume production.

  • Manage Engineering team which supports assembly processes, troubleshooting, product problems, and Supply Chain flow.

  • Assist with field product support as required by product repair centers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist in department administration including (but not limited to) vendor contracts and export control classification of technical data and hardware.

  • Plan and manage multiple engineering projects for the development of infrared cameras and accessories.

  • Manage project milestones, budget performance, deliverable and quality, report project status using department process, tools and metrics.

  • Develop risk management and tracking plan for all aspects of project

  • Regular interaction with Product Management to define product requirements and control changes to established specifications.

  • Develop recovery plans and work with Engineering team to address technical challenges with both new products and products in production.

  • Coordinate activities and development plans with internal organization and contract manufacturers to insure development objectives and smooth transition into production.

  • Work with Manufacturing Engineers and Technicians to insure efficient predictable delivery of products in production

  • Repair Center/Sales rep. Support

  • Work with Global Trade Compliance office to correctly classify information and hardware for export

Requirements:

  • 4-year degree (Engineering or science desirable)

  • Minimum 5 years' experience with at least 1 year managing projects and/or people

  • Minimum 3 years' experience from manufacturing industry

  • Strong documentation and communication skills

  • Must be a US Person: US Citizen or US Permanent Resident required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail

  • Experience from international teams/projects

  • Experience from whole product life cycle from development to full rate production

  • Ability to coordinate activities of cross-functional Team.

  • Self-directed, has initiative and ability to multi-task.

  • Formal Project Management training or other similar training

  • Management experience desired but not required

  • Less than 10% travel

Job Description Job Summary: Provides leadership for the development activities of engineering projects. Detailed Description: * Plans and manages engineering projects for quality development of infrared cameras, components, and accessory products * Manages project milestones, budget performance, deliverables and quality, and reports project status using department process, tools and metrics * Maintains an active risk tracking and mitigation plan for all aspects a project including schedule delays, technical issues, supplier problems. Works actively with development teams to reduce project risks. * Provides leadership and direction to the engineering staff on the development according to the released Design Control Process * Interacts with Product managers to clearly define and control project requirements and changes to the established baseline * Coordinates with internal organization and company leadership to achieve development objectives and product manufacturing goals. * Assists with developing and reviewing project estimations for all projects, including resource allocation, priorities, schedules and forecasts. * Assists in the establishment of the department budget * Provides feedback into the Engineering processes so they are constantly improved Requirements: * Bachelor's degree in a technical or business discipline * 5 years project/program management experience, managing and leading highly skilled technical teams * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail * Drives deadlines in dynamic and fast moving environments * Team player with exceptional interpersonal skills at all organizational levels * Self-directed, has initiative and is a great multi-tasker * Proven commitment to quality and continuous improvement * Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products including; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook * Experience with Lean Development desirable. * Applicants must be either a U.S. citizen, U.S. national, legal permanent resident, asylee, refugee or must be eligible to apply for and obtain the appropriate export control license from the U.S. Departments of State or Commerce.
