Our client is currently seeking a Sr.

Project Engineer for a long-term contract opportunity in Los Alamos, NM Overview Our client is looking for an experienced Sr.

Project Engineer with extensive knowledge in engineering activities, design, and construction within nonreactor nuclear facilities. This role involves leading technical efforts and ensuring project success through effective management and oversight. Responsibilities Act as the lead technical representative for engineering activities related to the planning, design, execution, and closeout of projects.

Lead and manage development of projects with an integrated project team (IPT) that includes customers, stakeholders, and subject matter experts. Manage engineering design efforts for both internal and external engineering design teams; manage design reviews, facilitate resolution of comments, and ensure delivery of compliant design products at each stage (30/60/90/100%). Manage contracts and coordination of design deliverables for external design execution; support design progress through team meetings and resolution of subject matter expert comments. Manage internally produced design schedules, team staffing needs, costs, quality checks, and overall delivery.

Develop cost estimates with the Engineering Services technical team for project support. Manage technical requirements for construction, including coordinating designer-constructor interface, design changes, submittal reviews, inspection documentation, RFIs, commissioning, and certificate of occupancy process. Work with the integrated project team to ensure proper project closeout, documentation completion, and storage in appropriate repositories.

Adhere to and enforce policies, programs, procedures, and practices of the Client Conduct of Engineering program. Plan, forecast, and identify necessary engineering resources to support project workload requirements; review project engineering progress against approved schedules and budgets; evaluate changes; and take corrective actions when required. Work with client representatives such as building officials, fire marshals, and electrical safety officers for requirements identification, permitting, and issue resolution.

Resolve field-initiated engineering questions, visit job sites, aid in the resolution of construction-related technical issues, and provide resolutions to diverse complex problems. Make recommendations to engineering management on project assignments of key personnel and requests for specialized professional services. Mentor junior project engineers and provide oversight of their work.

Aid in developing training presentations. Seek out work for new and existing customers within the organization. Lead initiatives to improve the organization.

Requirements Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university. 12 or more years of practical work experience. Demonstrated experience as a senior technical advisor implementing, overseeing, and assessing engineering activities. Advanced experience working with design and construction contracts.

Advanced experience in cost engineering functions, including cost estimating, cost control, financial reporting systems, and cost and variance analysis. Proven experience in leading design teams and resolving technical issues; working with EVMS compliant schedule and cost control systems; qualified as a Control Accounts Manager. Advanced knowledge of new methods of design and construction, related construction practices, the economics involved, and application of industry codes and standards.

Understanding and experience working with Performance Based Indicators. Experience in the development and implementation of a Project engineering program. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent problem-solving skills. Proficiency with MS Office Suite. Knowledge and experience with NQA-1 quality requirements.

Experience in DOE/NNSA nonreactor nuclear facilities and radiological facilities or projects. Knowledge of industry, regulatory, and DOE/NNSA complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to Vital Safety Systems such as DOE 420.1C and DOE STD-1189. Working knowledge of related non-reactor nuclear codes, standards, best practices for nonreactor nuclear/hazardous mechanical confinement systems, and generation of piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Demonstrated experience with development of safety class and safety significant designs.
