Job Description:

Our NuVasive Specialized Orthopedics team focuses on orthopedic trauma and deformity within all long bones and foot and ankle. You'll also be part of a larger team that focuses on implants for the spine. As our Project Engineer, you'll work on new product development, utilizing your knowledge of mechanisms, engineering practices, mathematics, materials science, and other physical sciences to create implants and instrument systems designed for use or complex orthopedic surgeries. You'd be responsible for execution of all phases of product development as designs are created through the release of specifications, drawings, test protocols and reports and other documentation. This includes creating project timelines and delivering on project milestones.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Maintain active project schedules by interfacing with cross functional team members in completion of specialized orthopedic implant and instrument projects of pre-defined scope

  • Perform mechanical design of components and assemblies including model and print generation

  • Collaborate with internal and external metal fabricators to produce medical devices including implants, instrumentation, and tooling and fixtures based upon Shareowner's designs/concepts

  • Delegate relevant project tasks to interdepartmental and cross functional team members

  • Accountable for the creation of protocols, execution of testing and report generation

  • Responsible for completion of design controls per internal standard operating procedures

  • Manage work deliverables within accelerated timelines

  • Perform duties in compliance with applicable FDA and state regulations as well as standards including, but not limited to, ISO 13485

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineer, or equivalent

  • 5+ years related experience

  • Strong proficiency with proof-of-concept prototyping, iteration, and device testing and be able to communicate design ideas using concept sketches or CAD renderings

  • Heavy CAD experience, preferably Pro/E, Creo or SolidWorks

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office with a strong ability to write business reports and correspondence as well as the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and management of organization

  • Demonstrated experience developing test plans, protocols/test scripts, and test reports

  • Proficiency and knowledge in applying concepts of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, geometric tolerances, and tolerance analysis in addition to ability to solve and interpret problems and collect data

  • Ability/willingness to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in complex mechanical design in a regulated field with a strong preference for orthopedic experience

Essential Job Functions: Project Manager Responsibilities * Responsible for assisting with project intake and assessment processes working with their manager and business stakeholders * Participates in annual and periodic project portfolio development process * Supports efforts to facilitate visibility and management of Avanir's project portfolio within Avanir and as needed within Otsuka North America * Responsible for successful project execution, implementation and sustainability of assigned projects through proper application of Avanir project management methodology, tools and governance, within allocated budget and timeline * Drive quantification of project benefits * Conducts regular cross-functional project/program meetings with all stakeholders throughout project lifecycle; effectively communicates up, down and across * Sets and manages scope, cost and delivery expectations of internal/external partners and stakeholders * Manages the effective utilization, allocation and deployment of internal/external resources to ensure successful delivery and support of projects * Partners with IT, process owners and other key stakeholders to ensure the alignment, consolidation and integration of systems/solutions * Escalates any potential risks to his/her management * Maintains a performance and improvement culture. Take initiative to reach out and drive changes * Provides regular updates to management and all key stakeholders to ensure proper communication and continued alignment on project goals and priority * Develops project control plan and appropriate hand off with process owner(s) to ensure sustainability and periodic project outcome reporting Senior Analyst Responsibilities * Works with various stakeholders to perform business / functional requirements gathering, develop as-is / to-be process flows, document business rules etc. * Prepares functional requirements documentation, functional design documents, functional specifications, fit-gap analysis etc. * Performs data analysis, data cleansing, data migration etc. * Develops test scenarios and end to end test scripts * Executes testing based on the test approach, coordinates defect capture and resolutions, works with vendors to perform system test across multiple solutions, assists with coordination of UAT etc. * Prepares and delivers training and communications * Participates in the development of change management plans, and assists project managers in driving change * Prepares Validation deliverables as required for GxP systems * Performs cutover and deployment tasks * Prepares other project related documents, performs business and systems analyses, measures baselines and post implementation results etc. * Teaches, coaches/mentors less experienced analysts to increase organizational capabilities This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee.
