About the role

POSITION SUMMARY

Covanta is hiring a Project Engineer to be based at the Covanta Morristown Office.

This position will support engineering in the design, specification, procurement and installation of materials handling equipment used in the processing of ash from a modern Waste-to-Energy facility. Essential Functions include developing and specifying materials handling and processing equipment and system design/scope documents including:

• Determine feasibility of designing new or modifying existing facilities considering costs, available space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.

• Provide support in the evaluation, selection, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.

• Prepare system layout, drawings, and schematics. Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

• Collaborate with other engineering competency areas to ensure project success

• Coordination with equipment suppliers, engineering subcontractors, & installation contractors

• Support new equipment commissioning including providing on-site consulting/overview of equipment installation and startup & testing

• Compare final design for compliance with contract documents.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited Institution preferred.

• 10 years of experience in material handling equipment in compatible industries

• Strong Preference for familiarity with Material Handling Applications within Industrial Facilities in industries such as Power, Mining, Chemical, Pulp & Paper, Aggregate, Metal Recycling, and Waste-to-Energy including:

o Magnet and Eddy Current Separators for metal recovery

o Conveyors, all types (Belt, vibrating, drag, screw, bucket, pneumatic, etc.)

o Shredding, screening and trommel technologies

o Process controls, electrical and structural designs

o Bulk handling, cleaning, storage, loading and unloading systems.

o Mobile and transport equipment

• Motivated self-starter with ability to work on multiple concurrent projects with minimal supervision.

• Willingness to travel a minimum of 25%

• Strong technical writing and oral communication skills

• Proficiency with:

o Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)

o Microsoft Projects and Visio

o AutoCAD

o PeopleSoft or SAP enterprise systems a plus
