Job Summary

The Senior Project Controls Engineer is the project controls knowledge keeper of the Engineering Team in the Regional Engineering Americas (REA) department and is responsible to manage the project controls part of multiple capital investment projects in parallel. He or She supports the Project Manager to deliver the project by providing data, projection and expertise which enable proper decision making across all phases. As a SPCE you are an integral part of our Engineering organization. You have the opportunity to shape an existing team, grow our skills and provide leadership, direction and extensive knowledge in all project controlling activities. You will have the primary responsibility to ensure implementation and management of all project controlling activities from project set-up, through design, construction and commissioning to project close-out across projects in the project portfolio. This role demands strong entrepreneurship, involves customer service mindset, good communication and influencing skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse, cross-functional teams.

What You Do

Responsibilities include:

  • Perform project control activities (cost-, schedule- & scope management) in capital projects.

  • Create and sustain processes, systems, tools & templates for project controls.

  • Ensures thorough management of cost and schedule, effective change control and the consolidation of cost estimates in projects across all project phases for the entire portfolio.

  • Lead, manage and develop the community of Engineering Controls experts across the Americas region including interfacing with external parties and professional institutions.

  • Actively engage and provide professional support to project teams in the areas of Project Controls by sharing best practices.

  • Establish and train the relevant project controlling processes in alignment with the Diagnostics Project Practices.

  • Prepare the project portfolio master schedule and establish progress measurement. Responsible for the validity, accuracy, and completeness of all project portfolio controlling information.

  • Present project portfolio status reports.

  • Perform project cost and schedule reviews and project controlling audits.

  • Help project teams define and procure external resources to support project implementation in the area of Project Controls.

  • Take over people management responsibility as the team grows midterms.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of facilities project management related experience or Bachelor's Degree in a related field with 5 years of facilities project management related experience

  • At least 1 year of previous responsibility for leading or managing people formally or informally

  • Strong computer skills including project scheduling software

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability in prioritizing multiple projects with varying scopes of responsibility

  • Strong analytical skills and problem solving ability

  • Excellent oral/written communication, planning, organizing, interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Flexibility with working hours and any necessary travel (up to 30%)

  • Experience working in a regulated industry strongly preferred

Preferred Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Civil, Construction Management or related technical field.

  • At least 3 years of experience in project management or construction management with emphasis on project controls preferred. 6+ years' experience preferred.

  • Proven record of accomplishment in successfully completing complex capital projects exceeding $10MM

  • Strong problem solving capability, leveraging structure process driven approach to problem solving

  • Results oriented and able to effectively organize and develop plans; prioritize and execute actions

  • Proficient technical, project management, analytical, statistical and organization skills

  • Proficiency in Primavera (P6), MS Project or other major scheduling programs

  • MS Excel, SAP and Project Management applications experience

  • Excellent oral/written communication, planning, organizing, interpersonal and leadership skills

  • Flexibility with working hours and any necessary travel (up to 50%)

  • Experience working in a regulated industry strongly preferred

  • This position can be located in Indianapolis, IN, Tucson, AZ or Santa Clara, CA*

This involves being available 24/7 for support calls (during support rotation), conducting phone troubleshooting, remote dial in support/troubleshooting, support escalation process, and as necessary on-site support. Collateral duties includes controls systems electrical design utilizing AutoCAD, PLC/PC programming, Human-Machine Interface (HMI) programming, customer training, acceptance testing and debug support on site, ensuring proper project close out process is followed, ordering spare/replacement parts, preparing and following up on Annual Support Contracts, and proactive customer check ups/visits. The individual will work directly with the Controls/Unified Support Manager to ensure all customer needs are met in a timely manner as well as to the customer's complete satisfaction. The individual will work with the Controls Sales and Systems Managers to develop the customer support program to include post acceptance support and after-hours support. The individual will work with other Systems and Controls personnel to coordinate and assist in project close out.
