Job Summary

The Senior Production Engineer will be responsible for production surveillance and operations for selected assets within Murphy's deep-water offshore operated and non-operated field portfolio. They will also coordinate through tubing well intervention activities as required and provide support for new field development planning.

As the well produces, the Senior Production Engineer may be responsible in part for the design of well completions, subsurface and surface production facilities which are needed to produce the field and treat the produced fluids to produce oil and gas with the specifications required for transportation and sales. The Senior Production Engineer is an integral member of the Area Asset Team and works in a collaborative environment.

The Sr Production Engineer will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remote.

Responsibilities

  • Provide well surveillance on a day-to-day basis using available real time data streams, field reporting, decline curves, cumulative production, and ratios, to efficiently regulate the wells and meet production and financial targets

  • Provide guidance on daily production activities, including management of producing rates, flow assurance and remedial well operations

  • Work with offshore field operations staff to ensure production goals and cost controls are met.

  • Work closely with the Subsurface Teams to determine the most efficient means to develop the well/ field considering crude oil characteristics, GOR, water cut, depth and type of reservoir and perhaps most importantly, project economics

  • Identify wells for production enhancement, including exploring, identifying and justifying additional technologies to enhance production from wells that are declining

  • Prepare recommendations and issue AFEs for well intervention activities such as production logging, well testing, electric and slick line operations, stimulation, artificial lift, and coiled tubing operations. Control of wells while conducting well intervention activities. Follow up by coordinating activities

  • Well level short- and long-term production forecasting considering any facility or downstream constraints

  • Communicate status of operational activities at all levels, from Executive to Technical, with ability to tailor content accordingly

  • Communicate wellbore physical conditions and producing characteristics to Subsurface Team, and work jointly to establish plans and recommendations for well recompletion and remedial services

  • Solicit proposals for services including well service/intervention, third party engineering/consulting support; and supply of various well bore and production related materials

  • Follow up with vendors/contractors by providing all necessary support and direction to maintain cost control

  • Provide support to Subsurface and Developments Teams for new field development planning. This includes preparation of design basis for flowlines, chemical delivery systems and process equipment; determination of treating chemical requirements; management of chemical screening; and development of operating and flow assurance procedures

Licenses/ Certifications

  • Willing to attend and be able to pass HUET (Helicopter Underwater Egress Training)

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a Petroleum discipline

  • Minimum 9 years' experience in deep-water production operations, including offshore well intervention operations, system modeling, and exposure to process facilities operations

  • Extensive experience and working knowledge of building, matching, and troubleshooting Petex PROSPER and GAP models

  • Proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint a necessity, and preferably experience with MS Teams

  • Strong safety mentality

  • Strong communication skills with experience working in a multi-disciplinary and diverse environment

  • Possesses a collaborative nature and actively participates in teams; actively seeks continuous improvement by identifying and implementing best practices and procedures

  • Strong interpersonal and analytical skills and the ability to work with internal and external contacts

  • Periodic travel offshore and to vendor sites required

Desired/Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Engineering with a Petroleum discipline

  • Proficiency in Kappa SAPHIR an advantage

  • Proficiency in PETEX MBAL an advantage
