Leads Product Engineering Projects and independently conducts Product Engineering tasks (material selection, construction designs and process assessment) of composite, wood and plastic constructions for doors and door systems incl. electro-mechanical components under consideration of process capabilities (new or existing), costing, application requirements, all codes and compliance requirements, and performance testing requirements either for new designs or during the refinement and evaluation of existing designs. Collaborates with all other functions within the Product Engineering Team and other Masonite functions as applicable. Coordinates product testing, prototyping and qualification for new products, modified products and validation of manufacturing process optimization initiatives.

  • Craft engineering documentation (specifications, drawings, test reports) and manage all tasks leading up to a published and issued engineering documentation

  • Contribute to the Engineering Change Process for assigned product category.

  • Evaluation, refinement and (re-)qualification of existing product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance, process fit, testing, prototyping).

  • Evaluation, refinement and qualification of new product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance, process fit, testing, prototyping) as determined through the NPI stage gate process incl. subproject leadership for accountable deliverables.

  • Project management and leadership of Product Engineering projects in the category.

  • Keeps on top of technology development in related Engineering fields.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience Requirements:

  • BS Engineering, MS in Engineering a plus; preferably in Mechanical, Materials, Chemical Engineering.

  • Proven success in product design of composites, wood and plastic components. Additional electro-mechanical knowledge a plus.

  • Understanding of engineering with wood, composites, plastics, fiberglass, and adhesively bonded systems including understanding failure modes of these materials & technologies of sealing, insulated (thermal & sound), fire resistant composite systems. Related industry experience.

  • Competent in engineering a product from scratch using fundamental engineering principles and best practices taking appropriate material selections and construction designs into consideration.

  • Proven track record of independently and successfully managing engineering projects and leading cross functional teams

  • Competent in leading and contributing to the development and engineering of innovative products that deliver significant business growth.

  • Skilled in crafting engineering documentation (specifications, drawings, test reports. Working knowledge of computer drafting tools (AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor and Microsoft Office applications).

  • A technical understanding of relevant manufacturing processes, ie. injection molding, SMC molding, extrusion, foam injection, lamination processes of (wood-) composite products, and knowledge of Lean Sigma tools to oversee the application of technical skills in the identification of root causes and proposed solutions within the realm of product engineering aspects.

  • DFMEA/ PFMEA, Lean/ Six Sigma Fundamentals

  • Ability to evaluate and refine existing product designs and materials from a product engineering perspective (technical design, material selection, product performance, testing, prototyping).
