A DAY IN THE LIFE:

As a member of the product development team, the Senior Product Development Engineer I will take on a lead role in the design and development of the Company's next-generation medical devices, accessories, and associated test and assembly fixtures. This role will also support changes to existing products to improve reliability and cost-structure.

A Senior Product Development Engineer I at Tandem also:

  • Designs, develops, and verifies performance of electro-mechanical components, mechanisms and systems for the Company's next-generation medical devices and accessories.

  • Conducts requirements analysis, architectural design, and develops detailed engineering specifications.

  • Supports sustaining engineering by both performing root cause analysis and developing design changes to resolve identified issues.

  • Develops benchtop fixtures to test design parameters as well as manufacturing processes.

  • Researches applicable patents and collaborates with the intellectual property team to assess intellectual property constraints for freedom to operate.

  • Researches and reviews applicable standards and regulatory guidance documents related to products in development.

  • Designs components for reliability/robustness.

  • Performs tolerance analysis of parts and assemblies.

  • Responsible for characterizing, specifying, and testing component materials.

  • Selects components and equipment based on analysis of requirements as well as component specifications and reliability.

  • Assists the Regulatory team in preparing regulatory submissions and supporting them while the product is under review.

  • Participates in evaluating the reliability of materials, properties and techniques used in production.

  • Troubleshoots product design and assembly tooling and processes.

  • Works closely with the Quality Engineering team to develop and update Risk Assessments.

  • Develops and delivers training for other engineers, technicians, and operators.

  • Confirms completion of required training plan before assuming job responsibilities.

  • Ensures work is performed in compliance with company policies including Privacy/HIPAA and other regulatory, legal, and safety requirements.

YOU'RE AWESOME AT:

  • Designing small, complex parts and assemblies in SolidWorks .

  • Using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to clearly convey design intent.

  • Performing complex tolerance analysis to ensure fit & function of device

  • Using electronics test equipment such as an oscilloscope, logic analyzer, or DMM.

  • Quickly setting up a bench test to collect some data (both hardware & software development)

  • Analyzing data with statistical reasoning using Python (pandas, seaborn, etc). and Excel

  • Programming in Python for hardware test development.

  • Communicating complex technical information in simple, easy-to-understand terms.

  • Writing test methods, protocols, and reports.

  • Working in a cross-functional team consisting of R&D, Manufacturing, and Quality personnel.

  • Asserting ideas and persuading others.

  • Quickly changing opinions when new information is available.

YOU'LL NEED:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field

  • or equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience.

  • 5 years of experience in the medical device field including detailed design, design testing, test documentation, and prototype fabrication of wearable biomedical devices.

  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The starting base pay range for this position is $105,000 - $135,000 annually. Base pay will vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and may also fluctuate depending on candidate's location and the overall job market. In addition to base pay, Tandem offers a competitive compensation package that includes bonus, equity, and a robust benefits package.

Tandem offers health care benefits such as medical, dental, vision, health savings accounts and flexible saving accounts.
