23andMe is seeking an accomplished Product and Marketing Counsel to join our Legal team. This role will play a key role in navigating the complex legal landscape of digital healthcare and serve as a thought partner in providing strategic legal advice and guidance on product development, marketing, and promotional initiatives. The position requires a deep understanding of healthcare regulations and digital health technologies to ensure our products and marketing efforts align with legal requirements and industry best practices.

What You'll Do

• Work closely and collaboratively as a trusted advisor with Brand, Marketing, Product, and other internal business teams to manage and minimize legal risks while also supporting business objectives and innovation.

• Cultivate relationships with marketing and product leaders. Assist in developing legal strategies to address novel issues in creative, business-centric ways to help advance business priorities and goals.

• Proactively identify applicable laws and regulations, including FTC, FDA and state medical laws that could affect our product and service offerings, promotional plans, and marketing campaigns.

• Communicate complex legal issues and risks to senior leadership and executives coherently, succinctly, and with impact.

• Collaborate with legal team members to develop, implement, and improve processes to ensure compliance and alignment with business demands.

• Keep current on relevant industry standards, laws, and regulations and also maintain awareness around potential upcoming legislation and recent case law

• Manage outside legal counsel on various matters and efficiently use external resources based on need, expertise, and capacity.

What You'll Bring

• JD with excellent academic credentials

• An active member of a U.S. state bar, preferably the State Bar of California

• 8+ years of in-house and law firm experience as a product and/or marketing counsel

• Expert knowledge of online and offline advertising and marketing rules and regulations, including state consumer protection statutes, FTC guidelines.

• Significant experience practicing FDA law and advising business teams on the legal aspects of FDA-regulated products.

• Familiarity with state and administrative medical rules and regulations.

• Experience in healthcare is required (digital healthcare experience preferred)

• Proven experience working cross-functionally with various teams and stakeholders

• Excellent problem-solving skills, legal drafting, and negotiation skills

• Ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure

• Demonstrated track record of providing practical business-friendly advice

• Demonstrated analytical skills as well as the ability to take disparate information and make strategic recommendations quickly

• Ability to develop and deliver presentations to senior management and influence others

• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to get things done

• Team-first approach.

• Exceptional verbal and written skills.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship-building and collaboration.

• Ability to work a hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite (Tuesday-Thursday) in our Sunnyvale, CA office

Pay Transparency

23andMe takes a market-based approach to pay, and amounts will vary depending on your geographic location. The salary range reflected here is for a candidate based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The successful candidate's starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

San Francisco Bay Area Base Pay Range

$240,000-$360,000 USD
