As the Snr Engineering Manager, Process within Synthego's Engineering Team, you will apply your analytical and management skills to coordinate new products and processes being built and transferred from development into production. You will be heavily involved in managing the full process from inception and requirements gathering through to validation and delivery, ensuring our production platforms are well characterized and efficient and can scalably produce high quality products.
What you'll do
Drive the adoption of structured processes for the introduction of new products, processes, and equipment in our production facilities
Identify areas for technological or process improvement and coordinate multi-disciplinary teams to implement these changes
Run requirements gathering sessions to gather user and scientific input, such that LIMS and equipment development can have the greatest impact
Coordinate the execution of qualification and validation studies, ensuring we maintain tight control over what is shipped to customers
Design and coordinate data gathering exercises with production to continuously monitor and streamline our workflows
Publish and align capacity models inclusive of both instruments and labor, to line up with sales forecasts and CapEx planning
Maintain expertise on alternate methods, techniques and best practices used in the field; routinely benchmark process performance
Create a broad set of analytical tools and use them to guide targeted improvements to automated systems across multiple labs / environments
Evaluate critical tradeoffs and make decisions on resource requirements and allocations to set high-level initiative goals
Handle multiple projects, seeing obvious overlaps to make the implementation process more efficient and standardized
Masters or PhD (preferred) in a Life / Physical Science or Engineering
7+ years experience investigating, developing, and implementing integrated laboratory or manufacturing processes
3+ years of managing a technical team of scientists / engineers
Experience investigating, developing, and implementing manufacturing processes
Mapping processes in detail, down to the individual wells / volumes, and ensuring they are efficient and robust, is not a chore; it's a hobby.
You can analyse data from a variety of sources (machines / databases / people) and draw insightful conclusions in order to assist others
You are comfortable in a range of software packages to perform modelling / analysis (Python preferred), and UI/UX design (Balsamiq preferred)
You consider yourself a translator between disciplines - you are comfortable having discussions with scientists and engineers in their technical lingo
No matter how simple the workflow, you've taken the time to understand the steps, constraints, and missing characterisation work prior to creating clear diagrams and work instructions (SOP) for use in operations
Getting a good result once doesn't cut it - you're always after a robust process that executes well each and every time (and if it doesn't, knowing immediately why)
You understand how important well-defined qualifications are to the life-cycle of a product - IQ/OQ/PQ aren't just letters, they are a way of life
You are familiar with the experimental and documentation overheads that come with being in a regulatory environment (cGxP, CLIA, CAP, ISO)
You've seen a team created, guided it through getting to know itself, and taken the time to understand what drives its members
Multiple, medium-sized (quarter-long) projects running at the same time is something you are used to, both as an individual contributor and as project coordinator, and you're looking to take on more
You have the ability to work diligently with minimal supervision and take initiative to drive project deadlines
You are meticulous in capturing goals, to-dos, and decisions made for yourself and those around you
You can work independently but consider yourself to be a team player
Nice to Have
Familiarity with / broad knowledge of laboratory automation
Experience with design control / V-model product launches
Bonus points if you are familiar with the dark arts of liquid handling
You can provide evidence of working with Biology / Chemistry at scale
