Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Structural Analysis Engineer to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, California and will perform structural analysis on metallic or composite airframe structures.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop solutions to difficult technical problems that are thorough, imaginative, practical, and consistent with program objectives.

  • Coordination and clear communication with other engineering disciplines during the development of design solutions.

  • Concise presentation and explanation of structural issues/solutions to internal management and customer representatives.

  • Review of completed analyses, drawings, and repairs for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.

  • Evaluation of engineering products for conformity to standards, procedures, and specifications.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of STEM related engineering experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.

  • Experience in Metallic or Composite Structural Analysis of primary and secondary aircraft structures.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's of Science degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering preferred.

  • Experience in Structural Analysis Methods and documentation, including hand-sheet analysis, as well as the development and manipulation of large Finite Element Models using NASTRAN, FEMAP or other FEM tools.

  • Experience performing structural analysis on military aircraft.

It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) to introduce reliable new products faster, better and more economically. A successful candidate for the Mechanical Engineering, Structural Analyst position will lead and perform Structural Analyses on a wide variety of complex remote sensor system programs built for airborne, ground, sea and space-based platforms. You will lead structural analysis tasks on a larger mechanical design/analysis team as a senior analyst, will provide guidance to more junior structural engineers and will perform structural analyses yourself as needed. Tasks will include the evaluation of the structural integrity of electronic RF and EO/IR systems for static and dynamic strength, stiffness, fatigue, instability and thermal-elastic effects. More advanced analysis techniques using non-linear methods may be required when needed. You will work to drive the efficiency and integrity of the structural design and will be a key presenter in design reviews. Required Skills: * 10 plus years of experience using state of the art Finite Element Analysis and closed-form calculation techniques to perform structural analyses of systems subjected to shock, vibration, static, pressure, acoustic and thermal environments; to assess for strength, buckling, fatigue and other failure modes. * Experience leading and performing quality structural analyses under aggressive budgets and schedules. * Strong leadership skills to effectively drive a team of structural analysts using clear and concise communication, strong organizational skills and planning experience. * Expertise with the commercial Finite Element Analysis software packages PATRAN and NASTRAN. * Ability to develop system-level models and generate dynamic and random vibration loads for metallic bolted, brazed and welded structures. * Ability to solve unique and challenging structural problems by applying critical thinking skills and a working knowledge of scientific principles, theories and concepts. Able to efficiently architect new systems with a big-picture perspective, structural load-path insight and relevant experience. * Drive results and consistently achieve goals, even under difficult circumstances. Drive tasks to successful closure and show determination in the face of obstacles. * Ability to effectively mentor more junior engineers on analysis methodologies and industry standards. * Drive innovation by exploring multiple alternatives to overcome obstacles and find solutions.
