Northrop Grumman's Space Systems Sector organization is seeking applicants for a position on the Sustainment and Modernization of Radars (SMORS) program. This position will work in an Agile environment and serve as a software engineer supporting the BMEWS PAVE PAWS (BPP) radar(s).

The engineer selected to this position will:

  • Be responsible for leading and mentoring a team software developers.

  • Have a strong understanding of Agile principles.

  • Have a strong understanding of Scaled Agile Framework.

  • Have experience working on an Agile team.

  • Provide coaching, technical direction, and facilitation when necessary.

  • Provide support to the BPP DevOps Environment.

  • Participate in software implementation to include static code analysis, unit-level testing and documentation.

  • Perform/support rapid software defect root cause analysis and solution development.

  • Position may require up to 25% travel.

Position Summary / Responsibilities

Designs, develops, documents, tests and debugs applications software and systems that contain logical and mathematical solutions. Conducts multidisciplinary research and collaborates with equipment designers and/or hardware engineers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of electronic data processing systems for product and commercial software. Determines computer user needs; analyzes system capabilities to resolve problems on program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques and controls; prepares operating instructions; designs and develops compilers and assemblers, utility programs, and operating systems. Ensures software standards are met.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science or related discipline from an accredited college.

  • 9 years or more of professional experience; or 7 years of professional experience with a Master's degree.

  • Experience developing real-time Object-Oriented Software architectures, with C and/or Java, preferable to have experience with both.

  • Experience with full Agile lifecycle.

  • Position requires U.S. Citizenship.

  • Must have Interim DoD Secret security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Secret security clearance

  • Able to deliver successful results based on general objectives with minimal guidance.

  • Experience with software defect root cause analysis and solution development.

  • Familiarity with Missile Defense, Missile Warning and Space Situational Awareness missions.

  • Familiarity with Phased Array Radar technology.

  • Experience utilizing model based systems engineering and software design methodologies (SYSML/UML).

  • Experience in the use of Atlassian tools.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Windows, RedHat Linux operating systems.

  • Experience with Emulation/Virtualization technologies.

  • Experience with Git products.

  • Experience with applied automated testing techniques including unit and integration testing.

  • Strong ability to debug and trace existing baseline for system troubleshooting and impact analysis.

  • Understanding of standard software development lifecycle and supporting technical stack.

  • Must be able to work in a group environment.

  • Ability to efficiently and independently multi-task in an extremely demanding and deadline-driven environment.

  • Strong organization skills and an ability to prioritize assigned work in order to meet deadlines.

  • Detail-oriented with good written and verbal communication skills.

The Principal Systems Engineer will support the BPP sustainment and modification tasks under the guidance of the BPP senior systems engineers. What You'll get to Do: * Demonstrate the principles of systems engineering across the system lifecycle in support of sustainment and modifications of Missile warning/Missile Defense (MW/MD) ground based radars * Support or Lead the review and analyses of existing technical documentation on MW/MD modifications for completeness and possible impacts to system sustainment as part of BMEWS/PAVE PAWS (BPP) ground based radar re-integration activities * Support the system modeling team in identifying planned system modification impacts resulting from documentation reviews and analyses * Support or Lead system requirements reviews and creating and/or updating requirement specifications and technical documentation * Support or Lead the development of trade studies/analyses for the selection of preferred design solutions, commercial hardware or software components, and preferred course of action alternatives in project development/product delivery * Support or Lead the development of system integration plans, procedures and scenarios used in the conduct of software/hardware system integration testing, and supporting the analysis of integration results to assess system impacts * Support, participate, and/or lead discussions in technical working groups addressing systems engineering elements across the BPP ground based radar system * Participate in engineering peer reviews as a document originator or reviewer to ensure technical quality and engineering rigor is appropriate MSCOMSTR Basic Qualifications: * 5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters, 0 Years with PhD within a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited college. * Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance * Willing and able to travel on occasion continental and international sites Preferred Qualifications * Active Secret security clearance * Demonstrable strong problem solving and analytical skills * Experience with Ground Based Radars * Experience across the system engineering lifecycle * Experience with MS Office suite of tools (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project) * Familiarity with model-based systems engineering What We Can Offer You: Northrop Grumman provides a comprehensive benefits package and a work environment that encourages your growth and supports the mutual success of our people and our company.
