Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission. The Azure Memory and Storage Center of Excellence (AMS COE) is hiring a Sr. Principal Hardware Engineer. AMS COE is part of the CHIE organization focusing on Memory and Storage devices going into the cloud hardware servers. AMS provides memory and storage solutions to Azure, drives memory and storage suppliers to deliver high quality products meeting our requirements. We are looking for engineers with a passion for customer-focused solutions, insight and industry knowledge to architect and specify memory and storage hardware solutions that optimize for quality, reliability, cost, and performance.

As a Sr. Principal Hardware Engineer in the AMS COE Team, you will apply expertise in Memory and Storage devices and Cloud systems to provide best-in-class technology enablement for Azure products as a subject-matter-expert. You will balance key criteria as you influence future hardware architecture, ensure proper technology development and device integration. Specifically, you will work on providing solutions to future memory and storage systems, including, but not limited to, archival storage, computational storage, storage controllers, and emerging storage technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • 12+ years of technical engineering experience

o OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience

o OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 7+ years of technical engineering experience

o OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience.

Other:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of storage industry or enterprise/cloud server experience

  • PhD in Electrical and/or Computer Engineering

  • Experience working with SSD, HDD, or other storage related devices or systems

  • Experience with several storage media, HW and FW.

Hardware Engineering IC6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $158,500 - $276,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $202,800 - $304,200 per year.
