  • Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr. Principal Engineer System Safety

  • Global System Safety Engineer (24-028) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located out of Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The position supports System Safety Engineering tasking for global system safety requirements analysis, including customer coordination for safety impact and safety criticality for all requirements. It is also heavily integrated into the I&T process. Ensuring all Safety-Critical DTAPS stay on schedule and are supported internally for the C2BMC Safety Team and the customer BCQS reviews is critical.

Essential Functions:

  • System Safety engineering and development of program safety plans to provide the engineering team with the application of safety policies and guidance.

  • Integration of the product lines (BM, C2, Networks), generation of responsible sections of the capability specifications, training less experienced personnel in SE and Safety techniques, reviewing the content and details of technical products, and acting as a technical interface to MDA working-level counterparts on an as required basis.

  • Candidate should possess a System Engineering background specializing in System and Software Safety.

  • Must have the ability to be part of an integrated team tasked with defining the physical, functional, and technical architecture necessary to describe the desired capabilities of an evolving BMDS Battle Management, Command & Control, and Communications effort.

  • Identification and definition of desired capabilities

  • Modeling the interrelationships between internal and external components

  • Communicate the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and users and generate system/element-level functional, performance, and interface specifications to document and control the achievement of the desired capabilities.

  • The successful candidate will possess an in-depth knowledge of systems engineering concepts, principles, and techniques.

  • Must have a minimum of 7 years of increasingly responsible roles in developing and integrating large-scale Command and control and Battle Management Systems.

  • The Individual will support MDA and other program personnel and other system engineering tasks as required.

  • Successful candidates will interface with team members and National Team management to ensure high-quality products are generated on time and within available resources.

  • This position will require the independent completion of safety analysis, including preliminary hazard analysis (PHA) and subsystem hazard analysis (SSHA), and support for incorporating updates into existing safety analysis reports (SARs).

Basic Qualifications:

Please note your updated security clearance and IAT/relevant certifications on your resume if applicable.

  • An active Secret clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.

  • 9 years with a Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering or related fields; 13 years experience in lieu of a degree.

  • Regular travel between Colorado Springs and Huntsville will be required. The candidate will communicate closely with other system safety team members and leads in the various locations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI clearance is highly desired.

Additional Northrop Grumman Information:

Salary Range: $109,900.00 - $164,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
