The Senior Physical Therapist reports to the Clinical Manager and working under the guidance of the Clinical Manager or designee enhances the Physical Therapy program or service through the provision of advanced clinical care knowledge of current research and best practice staff support and assistance with program operations. This may include student program safety initiatives hospital wide multidisciplinary programs and various administrative duties.
Provides support for all Physical Therapy staff. Proactively monitors inventory and maintains supplies and equipment for specific service/program area (i.e. lymphedema and wound supplies assistive devices etc.).
Assists with the orientation of new staff.
Provides consultation mentoring and peer review to staff and students.
Demonstrates expertise and educates staff to selected assessment tools and treatment techniques.
Develops innovative approaches or programs to enhance patient/family outcomes.
Provides feedback to Supervisor regarding Staff Therapist performance for ERPS as appropriate.
Assists in facilitating staff competency program.
Enhances operational efficiencies identifying system improvement needs and offering support to interdisciplinary teams and/or committees. Implements and monitor program/service specific quality improvement efforts.
Participates in research/outcome measurement and assists with program competency. Provides or coordinates staff in-services to promote clinical competency. Is proactive in considering stewardship of resources to support OpX initiatives.
Supports student program through creation of formal mentorship opportunities for both student and Staff Therapist (Clinical Instructor).
Facilitates learning opportunities including program rounding patient case reviews literature reviews and hands on trainings.
Maintains membership in a professional organization and/or specialty area. Participates in National State and/or Local committees related to profession and/or specialty area. Participates in internal Lifespan professional presentation and/or external professional activities in the community.
Contributes to the creation of staff meeting agenda topics.
Facilitates conflict resolution in challenging communication scenarios.
Consistently models highly effective delivery/acceptance of both constructive and positive feedback communicating strategies and boundary awareness to support individual and team needs.
Supports staff in critically thinking through complex cases including but not limited to those with ethical concerns challenging discharge scenarios etc.
Provides staff support in prioritizing identifying resources and developing an action plan to manage patient case load as needed.
Supports management in routine department operations hospital wide initiatives and under special conditions.
Exhibits high customer service standards to inspire one another to improve the health and spirits of the lives with touch.
Performs the clinical duties of a Staff Physical Therapist as defined in the respective job descriptions.
Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited college or university is required.
A Masters of Science or Doctor of Physical Therapy is preferred.
Must be a licensed Physical Therapist in the State of Rhode Island.
Demonstrates advanced competency beyond staff level which may include resume continuing education courses/CEUs presentations/educational activities publications research program development and awards/recognition.
Membership and involvement in discipline specific professional organization and/or other clinically relevant organization is strongly encouraged.
Independently sets goals for professional development.
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and sensitivity to cultural diversity in each step of the care process.
Minimum of five years clinical experience as a licensed therapist with advanced clinical academic and professional currency in the specific therapy field and in specialty areas.
Pursuant to the state of Rhode Island Rules and Regulations for Licensing Physical Therapists a licensed Physical Therapist shall at all times be responsible for the supervision of Physical Therapy Assistants supportive personnel and students to ensure the safety and welfare of patients.
Communicates routinely with physical therapy assistants to monitor patient progress/status reassess needs and make changes to treatment plans.
Must be fit for duty in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) standards and program specific needs.
Work requires walking and long periods of standing and the ability to bend twist bend grasp and demonstrate physical mobility designed for patients care plan.
