Inpatient Job Competencies
1.Medication Preparation and Distribution
Accurately and efficiently fill cartfill and first doses
Accurately and efficiently pull medications to refill controlled access cabinets
Accurately and efficiently deliver medications/supplies to designated areas
Accurately and efficiently prepare all types of sterile products including SVP, LVP, chemotherapy, biotherapy and investigational agents
Accurately and efficiently prepare high-risk sterile products
Accurately and efficiently prepare extemporaneous compounds
Accurately and efficiently repackaging bulk medications
Demonstrates proficiency in two or more specialized areas of expertise meeting accuracy and productivity standards
Hazardous/Investigational Sterile Compounding

Inventory Management
Accurately and efficiently order medications and supplies
Accurately and efficiently receive/restock medications and supplies
Accurately and efficiently complete cycle counts and inventory audits
Outdate expired or soon to expire medications in a timely manner
Ensure medication security and accountability at all times
Monitors area inventory and supplies, notifies appropriate personnel when shortages and/or outages noted.
Outpatient Job Competencies
Sterile Compounding/Preparation Demonstrates proficiency in the following areas, meeting accuracy and productivity standards:
a. hazardous and non-hazardous
b. investigational drug preparation (including Phase 1, 2, and 3).
c. viral/BCG/vaccines
d. intrathecal
e. ambulatory pumps
f. high risk sterile validation
Inventory Management a. Reviews and monitors par levels
b. Reconciles inventory counts in appropriate systems
c. Properly manages vial inventory (e.g. lot management access)
d. Ordering/receiving medications and supplies
e. Tech-Check-Tech certified (per area)
f. Accurately and efficiently completes cycle counts and inventory audits
g. Troubleshoots, reports, and follows-up with medication storage devices (e.g. refrigerators)
h. Resolves controlled access cabinet discrepancy reports
i. Reviews and addresses recall notification requests
Area Maintenance a. Equipment maintenance (e.g. balances, printers, computers, scanners)
b. Process review and document updates (e.g. SOPs, competencies)
c. CADD pump and supply management
d. Alaris pump preventative maintenance and library update management
e. Monitors and reconciles inventory systems reports (e.g. medication outdates)
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Education
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred: Technical School
Experience
Required: Two years pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, infusion center or retail pharmacy.
Preferred: IV sterile preparation experience, ACPE IV Sterile Products Competency.
Certifications/Licensures
Required:Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
Preferred: ACPE Sterile Products Certification.
