Overview

GD-OTS is the leading manufacturer of weapons systems used by every branch of the military on helicopters, airplanes, and battleships. GD-OTS specializes in the design of Gatling gun systems, turreted systems, electro-optical fire controls, and several other distinguished product lines. This position will have hands on experience with supporting programs that directly support the US war-fighter. Major responsibilities of this role are developing production processes, troubleshooting production part and assembly issues and supporting process documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Create and write technical assembly work instructions for assembly and test area utilizing a Microsoft Word based instruction and 3D assembly depictions or exploded views using Siemens NX Solid Modeling Software (and other similar software applications) for various component builds and assemblies assigned.

  • Develop tooling and inspection strategies based on drawing criteria and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements to ensure end products meet design requirements.

  • Evaluate and develop new technologies for gun system assembly operations. Perform ergonomic and job hazard assessments to ensure that existing or proposed production processes do not put our employees at risk of injury.

  • Create manufacturing instructions, routers and bills of material.

  • Work collaboratively with our engineering team, suppliers and other subject matter experts to determine optimum methods and processes for manufacturing components and systems.

  • Develop transition to production plan(s) and determine full-rate tooling and equipment needs. Participate as a design team member to manage and improve design-to-build lead times, reduce costs.

  • Review drawing changes and contract modifications to determine impact to the manufacturing assembly process.

  • Develop and conduct technical training for production employees to develop skills needed to perform operations.

  • Solve manufacturing problems using root cause and corrective action process. Disposition non-conforming material and implement corrective and preventive actions.

  • Develop special work instructions and/or rework or repair instructions as needed.

  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives (blitz or kaizen events, GR&R studies, 5S).

  • Perform design for manufacturability, quality and cost reduction assessments. Work closely with production operators, technicians and suppliers to eliminate waste and optimize efficiency.

  • Contribute to new business proposal activity in cost estimating and developing manufacturing strategy.

  • Performs make/buy analysis for new and existing manufacturing processes.

  • Act with integrity in all aspects of work, meet commitments, work collaboratively with peers and hourly employees, and show interest in learning and continuous improvement.

  • Ability to effectively interface with customer (internal or external) when addressing quality issues or presenting items for customer acceptance.

Qualifications

  • BS or AS degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or other closely related technical field or equivalent industry experience; 4 years engineering experience in manufacturing environment

  • Technical writing skills and creation of visual work instructions utilizing Microsoft Word, and creating 3D assembly depictions and exploded views using Siemens NX Solid Modeling Software (or other similar software applications). Ability to develop tooling and inspection strategies based on drawing criteria.

  • Perform analysis work, sequencing, and proofing of new product launch on the shop floor

  • Bid and proposal estimating for machine time, recurring and non-recurring costs and proofing

  • Project Leadership, Lean and Six Sigma problem solving skills, conflict resolution skills, and collaborative teamwork

  • Strong communication skills, including ability to communicate at all levels of the organization and to educate/train peers and hourly employees, ability to lead focus groups.

The Sr. Product Engineer will take a hands on role supporting programs that directly support the US warfighter. This position will require working under limited supervision with a tightknit program team to support both production and refurbishment and repair of the Aegis MK82 Director and Aegis MK200 Controller. Production engineering support activities include real time troubleshooting and problem resolution, incorporation of formal root cause analysis and corrective action. Responsibilities Essential Duties and Responsibilities: * Utilize knowledge of Mechanical Engineering fundamentals to make informed decisions that ensure the fielding of safe and reliable products. * Utilize formal Failure Analysis (FA), Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) tools and techniques to quickly and efficiently troubleshoot and resolve problems, and implement robust corrective and preventative actions. * Ensure rigorous adherence to defined production processes, including configuration management and counterfeit avoidance. * Identify and recommend potential product improvements that bring new technology and capabilities to legacy products. * Periodic travel between sister GD-OTS facilities and to suppliers across the United States.
