Position Summary

Amkor Technology, Inc. has an opening for Sr. Mechanical Simulation Engineer based at our Tempe, AZ office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical simulation analysis service for semiconductor packaging to support product development for Amkor's internal and external customers.

• Provide simulation service to customers by performing finite element mechanical simulations such as stress simulation, warpage simulation, and reliability simulation for semiconductor IC packages using Ansys simulation tool.

• Present report of the simulation and propose counter measure for improvement of package warpage and stress reduction.

• Work with customers, business units, and R&D to support new product development and introduction, as well as design optimization. Provide mechanical and reliability solutions for advanced packaging technologies.

• Define problem statement and load cases to recreate the failure in simulation. Improve the failure by proposing design or material change.

• Perform numerical modeling of the stress and deformation of packages to provide understanding of chip-package interaction and package-board interaction to ensure good yield and reliability.

• Develop new simulation tools to improve productivity and efficiency. Develop new leading simulation technologies for mechanical and reliability challenges in next generation advanced IC packaging products.

• TRAVEL: Unanticipated travel to California, Korea, and Portugal for on-site customer meetings.

Required Qualifications

Job Requirements:

Education Requirements: Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related.

Experience Requirements: 24 months of experience in job offered, Mechanical Engineer Simulation, Mechanical Engineer, or closely related.

Special skills requirements:

• Perform finite element simulation on structural components using Ansys.

• Perform finite element simulation on structural components at both component and system level to optimize performance and reliability.

• Define loads and boundary condition for various complex model builds.

• Manage finite element model builds with an offshore team and coordinate with teams in multiple Geo locations.

• Perform stress analysis for metal and composite parts by performing stress strain mechanics, failure mechanisms, reliability, and material behavior.

• Mechanical modeling and drafting using Catia and Solidworks.

• Knowledge of assembly process, semiconductor devices, electronic packaging and materials enabling effective design implementation.

• Work with polymer or composite material behaviors, as well as temperature dependency, non-linear viscoelastic, plastic, or creep effects.

• Perform mechanical test, material property test, reliability test, and failure analysis.

• Experience with the following skills, FEM, ANSYS, ABAQUS, CAD, Solidworks, GD&T.
