Position Summary:The Sr Structures Design & Analysis Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for spacecraft structural analysis and design activities that ensure compatibility of designs with various mission constraints.
Perform structural design and analysis tasks for spacecraft platforms to meet customer requirements:
Design and implement mechanical design required to accommodate a variety of new mission payloads with existing AirbusUS spacecraft platforms
Design primary and secondary structural elements for spacecraft equipment
Lead the structures hardware program lifecycle, from conceptual design, development, test, and production
Perform structural analysis and modeling on various spacecraft and launch configurations
Assess compatibility of spacecraft and launch dispenser design with various launch environments
Develop hardware verification requirements to validate spacecraft structural designs
Support the development of subsystem level requirements and requirement flow-down to the various systems, subsystems, and components - in all phases of the development lifecycle with particular emphasis on Design for Cost (DFC)/Design for Manufacturability (DFM)/Design for Test (DFT) approaches
Participate in cross-functional planning, coordination, and task execution situations involving the full spectrum of engineering and integration activities
Support the spacecraft development roadmap for planned product improvement spirals to meet rising demand of diverse Intelligence and Defense missions for the US Government. This includes design adjustments, schedule, and cost targets aligned for future business opportunities
Participate in the spacecraft product customization process

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:
Required: Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.
Preferred: Master's degree in STEM (Science, Technical, Engineering, Math) or related scientific areas or combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 10 years of experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 8 years of experience with a Master's degree in mechanical engineering/analysis for satellite systems
Proven track-record of working with satellite mechanical systems, starting from conceptual designs and tradeoffs through detailed design, development, manufacture, integration, and test
Design for Manufacturing (DFM)/Design for Test (DFT) experience highly desirable
Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:
Proficiency with 2-D and 3-D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar) and GD&T
Proficiency with Mechanical Analysis tools such as ANSYS and/or NASTRAN
Familiarity with elements of space mission architectures extending beyond the spacecraft platform including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, user interfaces, etc
Proficiency with MS Office applications
Be team-minded and ready to work in a multi-functional and multi-cultural, fast-moving and complex/technical environment
Flexible attitude and strong initiative
Demonstrated ability to deliver results
Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
Excellent listening, comprehension & interpersonal skills as responsible for daily communication via email and phone calls
Excellent analytical, interpersonal, communication (verbal/writing), and presentation skills
Primary location is either Rosslyn, VA or Merritt Island, FL
If VA based, presence (up to 50%) in Merritt Island, FL to work alongside OneWeb Satellites engineering staff
If FL based, presence in Washington, DC area (20%) to coordinate with VA-based team and present to various customers and mission partners
Occasional International travel to collaborate with European Airbus counterparts
Ability to obtain and maintain a Government security clearance
Active DoD security clearance at Secret or above highly desirable.
