Job Description:
Raytheon Missile Defense (RMD) Mechanical Products Team (MPT) provides engineering design, integration and production to a wide range of hardware in RMD. The Air Defense Ground Equipment (ADGE) Department leads mechanical design, development and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development, and site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration and production support.
As a senior mechanical engineer, the individual will support multi-disciplined engineering teams and provide mechanical solutions and services across all program phases. Areas of focus can encompass development of existing products, transition to production, product support, vendor oversight and field upgrades.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with systems requirements
Oversee small to mid-sized cross functional engineering teams as a technical execution lead through all phases of development from proposal generation, program start-up, requirements allocation, preliminary and detailed development, through production
Lead the mechanical or cross functional engineering teams as the technical focal point within an integrated product team environment
Support the factory and suppliers with product integration domestically and internationally
Interface with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical challenges
Work with limited supervision and meet commitments for assigned schedule, financial, and technical goals
Support and participate in design peer reviews and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions
Apply knowledge and experience in technical problem solving and hardware development in a fast paced, team environment
Mentor and guide less experienced engineers
U.S. Citizenship status is required, as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Required Skills:
SIx (6)+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering role with minimum three (3) years designing and developing mechanical equipment, preferably for use in Military environments
Previous experience including concept definition through detailed design, transition to production and production support
Broad background in mechanical design, development, material selection, and manufacturing processes
Experience with CAD design tools and associated product data management tools
Engineering project management experience or schedule and budget responsibility
Desired Skills:
Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering
Willingness to travel (domestic and international)
Excellent communication, technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills
Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications
Experience in design, fabrication, and integration of electronic assemblies, shelter assemblies, power distribution equipment packaging, and rack systems
Knowledge in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Advanced problem-solving skills
Experience using CREO CAD design and documentation tools
Experience with Windchill PDM or similar product data management tools
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Project)
Experience with current manufacturing systems and processes
Reliability or failure analysis experience
Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced production environment
Able to work well with people, coordinating and executing multiple tasks, which may span separate projects or programs and are occasionally outside of the individual's discipline
Previous experience includes adaptability and willingness to work varying assignments
Demonstrated team player with excellent collaboration skills
Develops technical solutions to complex problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
Experience in supporting or leading proposals
As an individual contributor, demonstrates willingness to stretch performance in taking on new responsibilities, which may require extensive personal commitment, persistence, and extra effort to accomplish
As a lead engineer, develops cost and schedule estimates for a project and takes on responsibility for team performance in meeting these commitments
