Job Description


The Mechanical Engineer will join a team of engineers and designers to work on new and existing products, designing mechanical devices and enclosures for miniature to rack mount form factors; including PCB mechanical and electrical interfaces and cable routine. Products include: Cesium and Rubidium Atomic Clocks Frequency and Time Reference Standards for both military and commercial applications.

As part of new development you will be expected to develop and refine designs, make material and component choices, evaluate end-user interaction, support Engineering and Production and enhance manufacturability and cost control. The engineer will handle Bill-of-Material creation, Engineering Change Orders and must be able to execute on design, test and quality processes.

Job Requirements


  • Create full mechanical drawing and documentation packages of products following the guidelines ASME Y14.5M and Y14.100M

  • Work with project teams to perform conceptual designs for proposals

  • Execute mechanical design and packaging of electro-mechanical components

  • Participate with electrical engineers and physicists to solve design challenges

  • Conduct tolerance studies of assemblies and critical components

  • Perform finite element analysis of designs using Solidworks and/or ANSYS

  • Design fixtures for production assembly and test as necessary

  • Support production with ECO's and sustaining activities

  • Work with potential suppliers for quoting parts

  • Build, or assist in the building, of prototypes for functional testing, including soldering

  • Vibration and shock testing and analysis of assemblies

  • Establish BOMS and maintain assemblies through ECOs


  • BS or equivalent with 5-10 years or MS with 5 years of experience in Mechanical Engineering on mechanical packaging of electro-mechanical products

  • Extensive experience using Solidworks

  • Experience interfacing with Layout Design tools (PADS and Circuitworks) for mechanical design and review

  • General knowledge of materials and machining/forming processes, along with electronics assembly processes.

  • U.S. Citizenship Required

  • Must be willing to travel for up to 1 week at a time, including international travel


  • Broad engineering knowledge with an ability to troubleshoot and isolate problems within a complex system

  • Knowledge of PCB fabrication

  • Skilled in Presenting - can effectively communicate in large or small group settings

  • Skilled in Writing - can effectively write specifications and development documents

  • Works well in a small team environment

  • Self-motivated, detail oriented and independent worker

Desired Experience

  • Experience using ANSYS for simulation

  • Experience in aerospace/military packaging and design requirements

  • Ability to fabricate and modify components as needed for prototyping in machine shop

Seeking a Senior PCB Layout Engineer with 7+ years of experience in PCB design. As a PCB Layout Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and layout of PCB's, generation of manufacturing files, footprint creation, component library management, and coordinating with electrical and mechanical engineers to design highly integrated PCB's. Will work on design of new systems (NPI) as well as sustaining of legacy systems (CIP). Will include support of manufacturing test development. Involves management of internal projects as well as 3rd party houses for overflow work. Board designs will consist of a mix of medium to complex 4 to 14-layer PCB's, with some HDI design. Core Job Responsibilities: * Design printed circuit boards that meet internal design standards as well as IPC standards for components, interfaces and printed boards * Perform PCB layout for all types of boards using PADS, Orcad and supporting tools * Work with electrical engineers to design complex circuit boards assemblies involving a mix of high-speed digital interfaces, controlled impedance layouts, sensitive analog circuitry, and high-power electronics * Work with mechanical engineers on highly integrated mechanical-electrical packaging * Support quick-turn board builds with PCBA contract manufacturers * Interface with and management of 3rd party layout houses as needed for design overflow * Management of schematic symbol and layout decal libraries; should be adept at understanding component manufacturers' data sheets and orthographic projection. * Processing of design for DFM compliance with PCB fabricator and PCB assembly houses.
