Sr Mechanical Design Engineer

You will design products to meet customer needs, product quality, manufacturability, new product development, prototype builds, testing, and may serve a project manager role for smaller development projects. You will develop the product designs necessary to drive product improvement and will be integral in securing present and future business by consistently meeting or exceeding Voice of Customer requirements.

Solve complex problems where analysis of a situation is required in order to meet the requirements of the customer

Serve as the technical lead role for product lines or new development projects

Work with Sales and Customers to ensure designs meet customer expectations
10 Cost estimation 20 CAD based modeling 30 Design engineering 20 Product certification 20 Stress modeling


  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering


  • Analytical thinking and Six Sigma experience: DFMEA, Creation and Execution of Test Plans, "First time right" designs

  • Root cause and risk mitigation analysis

  • Aptitude for executive presentations

  • Design reviews and CAD tool usage

  • Simulation and modeling of new designs

  • Experience in heavily regulated industries

  • Customer-facing experience

You will: * Design technically advanced products while thriving in a creative, high volume, work environment. * Actively support projects from concept to post release with strong sense of urgency and action. * Design and develop prototypes with scopes ranging from specific concepts to comprehensive, functional products. * Utilize intellect and best engineering practices throughout Pentair's product development process (stage-gate). * Own essential design aspects such as specifications, 3D modeling, Finite Element Analysis, and CFD. * Perform critical testing & analysis directly related to stress, flow, fatigue, tolerance, and reliability. * Execute design validation process through prototyping, field & lab testing, fixture design and design-of-experiments. * Oversee pilot builds and initial production runs of newly designed Pentair products. * Lead and facilitate cross-functional meetings and design reviews with peers and other talented engineering groups. * Complete clean sheet detailed design and analysis of engineering concepts and related components. * Collaborate with other Pentair Global Design & Manufacturing Centers as well as strategic suppliers. * Create and sustain pre-release drawing packages and product specifications with accuracy. You should have: * B.S. / M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution. * Various years of mechanical design experience in a high volume production, product development environment. * Experience with plastic materials and plastic part design. * Demonstrated ability to move design changes from concept to shop floor. * Working knowledge of CAD design and simulation tools (SolidWorks preferred). * Working knowledge of machining, tolerances, fits & finishes, and GD&T. * Familiarity with PPAP's, DVP&R's, DFMEA's and PFMEA's. * Hands-on prototyping and testing abilities. * Regulatory agency experience (UL, CE, NSF) preferred.
