Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer
The Design Engineering Group at Garrett - Advancing Motion is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of cutting-edge new Turbocharger products to meet ever increasing demands of the transportation industry.
This position requires a broad understanding of turbochargers & vehicle systems combined with creativity and drive to develop new products based on customer needs. We are searching for an individual who is proficient in 3D CAD with engine, powertrain or Turbocharger component packaging, cast/machined component design and complex assembly experience. Responsibility spans from concept development of complex projects, support through test/validation and launch.
Responsibilities of the Position:
Interface closely with North American OEM Customers to understand detailed design requirements.
Work with cross-functional teams including Application Engineering, Product Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Base to ensure robust designs.
Use internal standards & industry experience to develop complex systems, that meets customer specific requirements & packaging space.
Have strong focus on built in quality. Design complex parts and assemblies, applying Design for Manufacturing, cost & Reliability fundamentals.
Lead design activity for customer programs and design freeze milestones.
Lead design reviews or Internal / External customer presentations.
Own product life cycle management process from CAD Data creation to release in PLM.
Work in fast pace environment with competing requirements and challenging deadlines. Lead designer will be responsible for managing project milestones, scope changes & supplier issues affecting designs, working with program managers.
B.S Mechanical Engineering
5 or more years' work experience designing mechanical and aerodynamic devices/components/systems.
Strong CAD skills. Minimum 3 years' experience with CATIA V5 (complex solid modeling, surfacing and drafting).
Proficiency with ASME Y14.5-1994 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing. Knowledge of 2D/3D Tolerance Stack up of complex assemblies required.
Experience with Enovia PLM / SmarTeam / Team Center PDM Systems.
Significant experience in manufacturing Metal Castings, Machining, Sheet metal forming, Plastic injection molded parts & part assembly processes.
U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder
M.S Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)
A comprehensive understanding of internal combustion engines and turbochargers.
Knowledge and Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis), Kinematics, and/or CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics).
Experience with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA & problem solving techniques.
Design for Six Sigma or Lean certified.
