Senior Market Surveillance Analysts, in addition to performing Analyst tasks, work independently on most day-to-day responsibilities, including confidently handling surveillance issues & investigations of medium-level complexity with minimal supervision. He/She has a high level of knowledge regarding their assigned products and related cash markets, demonstrate strong analytical capabilities, and employ the full capabilities of regulatory systems, including both position and trade data systems.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrate ability to produce well reasoned writing.

  • Demonstrate an intermediate level of proficiency with third party tools such as Bloomberg and Reuters to analyze underlying markets, specifically in the areas of charting and historical trend

analysis.

  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and initiative in developing contacts in their product areas and with Exchange Product and Research staff involved in their assigned contracts, and confidence in making inquiries regarding sensitive matters to sophisticated market participants.

  • Exhibit a solid understanding of Exchange rules and interpretations within the scope of market surveillance and a thorough understanding of the product and clearing rules relevant to their assigned contracts.

  • Implement internal department policies, as well as initiate discussions that contribute to the improvement of those policies.

  • Manage a more challenging workload and exhibit consistent levels of productivity in accordance with established objectives.

  • Regularly interact with clearing firm employees and other industry professionals to answer questions regarding Exchange rules, or to offer judicious guidance regarding problems or disputes.

Lead Analysts take a leading role within the Surveillance group conducting contract surveillance in multiple product classes & in conducting all types & surveillance cases. They handle significant caseloads & is expected to conduct and/or lead more complex matters with minimal supervision. The incumbent should take initiative to enhance the depth & breadth of their product knowledge within & outside of their assigned contracts, & to effectively cross-train others in their areas of expertise. Principal Accountabilities: * Assumes responsibility for signing off on communications with outside clearing and member firms, reviewing the preparation work by lower level analysts for contract calls or, interviews and assisting analysts with their written work product. * Demonstrate proficiency in the use of proprietary regulatory systems, third party tools, surveillance, product and clearing rules and interpretations, a solid understanding of relevant CFTC regulations and manipulation case law and a deep understanding of their assigned markets. * Demonstrate well-versed understanding of department policies and procedures. * Develop experience in an oversight capacity which will include working closely with Analysts and Senior Analysts to develop their knowledge, skills and capabilities as well as reviewing and providing feedback on their work. * Exhibit strong capabilities in providing regulatory support services and consistently demonstrate a high level of initiative. * Participate on teams charged with executing various department projects. Skills & Software Requirements: Proficient and certified in all of the Market Regulation systems, and be proficient with all Microsoft Office products.
