Job purpose

The Senior Manufacturing End of Line (EOL)Test Engineer is a specialist and considered a SME in developing New Manufacturing Testing Technologies, to support the Charging Forward initiative. This role will work with Design (Product engineering), Global Test Engineering to industrialize the performance testing for gaseous or liquid fueled engines and power electronics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for developing the concept for the entire EOL test cell for production volumes, including how to transport unit in and out of cell.

  • Process needs to include system preparation and fuelling. Followed by safe start and performance testing with pass / fail as well as cool down, de-fuelling and movements to shipping prep.

  • Work with the Product engineering team to understand the DFMEA.

  • Develop the Process Flow, PFMEA and Work Instructions for the EOL test process.

  • Collaborate with Product Engineering and plants in prototype development and testing, ensure a smooth knowledge transfer between Prototype build(s) to production as well as possible future plants.

  • Responsibility for deploying and controlling the EOL testing requirements for individual sample phases and for series production.

  • Ability to create machine specification, or Statement of Work (SOW) for test program based on final function test specification/End of line test. This will include how the overall mechanical and electrical system(s) function and interact from a performance standpoint in a production environment.

  • Ability to create machine specification, or Statement of Work (SOW) for software for flashing based on flash specification.

  • Work closely with the rest of the Manufacturing Engineering team to integrate EOL Test machine in the process line or cell.

  • Ability to develop a test cell that is complete with Environmental, Safety requirements such as fuel, heat, air flow and fire mitigation strategies.

  • Represent the EOL testing team during communications with internal and external customers.

  • Collaborate and work with the Design Engineering team to develop performance measurables and process pass / fail limits.

  • Continuously review the EOL testing process and evaluate the actual test plan / test results compared to the original plan.

  • Conduct capability study and Gage R&R of Test equipment as applicable.

  • Work with the Global Advanced Manufacturing team to establish the Global manufacturing standard(s).

  • Actively participate in Local and Global Workshops and ensure the products and processes are robust.

  • Once in production, continue to make improvements or optimize the test for Quality as well as Continuous Improvement work.

  • Ensure manufacturing best practices and lessons learned are implemented.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Electro-mechanical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred.

  • 5 years engineering experience at the plant level required, Electromechanical device experience is Required.

  • 2+ years of experience in end-of-line electrical tests for Industrialized applications.

  • Knowledge in design and developing equipment and machinery that use both electrical and mechanical technology.

  • Advanced knowledge in principles of electricity and electrical power circuits, as well as the associated risks.

  • High Voltage connections and heat transfer methodologies.

  • Experience with various Connections such as soldering, micro welding etc.

  • Understand the principles and operations of devices that can convert mechanical energy into electrical energy, such as dynamos and alternators, rotors, stators, armatures, and fields.

  • Understand Microcontrollers Software and Programming.

  • Understand computational programming (LabVIEW, C++, C#, VB, Phyton) preferred.

  • Knowledge in Basic Statistics (Capability Study, Gage R&R).

  • Knowledge in ESD, High Voltage testing and safety requirements.

  • Knowledge in Electronic Instrumentation (Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, Communications cards, HiPot, Programable Power Supply,).

  • Understand the principles of Electronic Development Framework (EDF) / FUSA / ASPICE.

  • Experience in High Voltage test would be preferred.

  • The ability to travel 5-10% of the time.

Education, Skills, Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor's in engineering, Masters Preferred.

  • Analytical and creative way of working

  • Thorough understanding of manufacturing processes

  • Manufacturing Experience in Electric & Hybrid Systems

  • Solid understanding of Engineering financials (Cap-Ex Planning and equipment costing)

  • Strong understanding of quality systems, change management principles and processes.

  • Working knowledge of IATF, FMEA, DFM/DFA and APQP required

  • Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis and/or 8D Problem Solving required.

  • Good communication skills for both internal and external customers.

  • This role is generally on-site (ie: not full time remote).

  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety systems and procedures.
