This is an exciting opportunity to join the Manufacturing Engineering team at Plymouth Nathan Lane. In this role as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will have responsibility for supporting day to day operations, through developing, characterizing, and validating process improvements. In this position you will drive improvements and stability within our processes, equipment, and technologies. This role will collaborate with the various cross-functional teams inside and outside of the plant including but not limited to Operations, Quality, Equipment Maintenance, Automation, Innovation, Regulatory, R&D and external vendors/consultants. This is an in-person role with very limited travel required.

This role is at the Plymouth Nathan Lane facility which supports the Peripheral Vascular Health (PVH) Operating Unit (OU). The PVH OU brings our various peripheral vascular businesses together into one cross-functional, collaborative operating unit through the full breadth of our talent, technologies, products, services, and solutions to address the needs of customers and patients across the globe.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining, and material handling

  • Perform process development / process validation in support of key projects.

  • Leverages a multi-disciplinary approach to solve problems - Physics, Chemistry, Thermodynamics, & Electronics.

  • Ability to understand how to flow requirements from a top-level design down to a manufacturing process specification.

  • Create and complete validation documentation and route engineering change orders.

  • Develops BOM's / Routes / Costing for new product introductions.

  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.

  • Collaborate with development teams to coordinate research / testing at the Nathan Lane facility.

  • Complete design transfer and integrate new product lines into the Nathan Lane facility.

  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.

  • Ability to remain self-motivated and supports the culture and mission of Medtronic.

  • Quickly learn and collaborate on product design to help inform manufacturing changes.

  • Make use of appropriate technical skills and tools, such as DOE, SPC, hypothesis testing, capability studies, Gemba walks, and "hands on" analysis, to perform in depth analysis, determine root cause, and identify corrective actions.

  • Generate actionable ideas to reduce cost, cycle time and increase yield.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years relevant experience

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in an active Manufacturing environment

  • Experience with Automated equipment and processes.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and experience applying these skills to resolve technical problems in a manufacturing environment employing tools such as DMAIC thinking and Root Cause Analysis.

  • Project Management experience or training.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Collaboration is a strength

  • Ability to work in a team environment

  • Creative, self-motivated, team player who values other's ideas and experience while working in a team environment

  • Experience working with (NPI) New Product Introduction

  • Familiar with Quality Control and Regulatory processes

  • Experience in design/manufacture of medical devices

  • Knowledge in various manufacturing processes as they apply to the medical device designs

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills

  • Experience with and effective application of Design for inspectability, Validation Protocol and report creation, SPC, Process Control Plans, MSA, GR&R, Gauging applications, Gauge design, and Gauge construction, Sampling methodologies, Data Analysis, VAVE, and IQ/OQ/PQ.

  • Experience with and understanding of Laser Cutting and Welding, Electropolishing, Cleaning, Passivating, Coatings, Assembly, Molding, and Forming

  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

  • Knowledge with Design Verification and Validation activities.

  • Effective interaction with personnel at diverse positions within and outside of the organization.

  • Works well under pressure, organized and able to attain results on several projects simultaneously.

  • Well-informed and current on manufacturing methods and equipment.

  • A thorough understanding of the product development process and its needs.

  • Results oriented and self-starter.

The provided base salary range is used nationally in the United States (except in Puerto Rico and certain CA locations). The rate offered complies with federal/local regulations and may vary by experience, certification/education, market conditions, location, etc.
