The Manager / Senior Manager Medical Communications and Publications will help shape and execute Medical Affairs strategic objectives for specific Alnylam disease areas. Through strategic alignment, the Manager/Senior Manager will be responsible for planning and execution of activities including but not limited to, investigator and expert outreach, advisory boards, publication planning, development of medical content as well as conference oversight as it pertains to medical affairs. As part of execution of the Alnylam strategy, he/she will work closely with Clinical Development, Biometrics, Clinical Operations and Commercial functions. This position resides within Medical Affairs and will report to the Director of Medical Communications and Publications.

The Manager/Senior Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing tactical plans to engage health care professionals and medical organizations. The Manager/Senior Manager will be well-versed in clinical practice and clinical research so as to deliver cutting edge data and technical/practical education to Health Care Professionals (HCP). Working with the Director of Medical Communications and Publications, the Manager/Senior Manager will provide strategic support and operational oversight for executing Medical Affairs goals and objectives.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for steering successful implementation and delivery of global priorities as it pertains to publications, medical education, medical training, and medical communications.

  • Plan and execute global medical communications programs that support commercialization strategy.

  • Lead, communicate and execute the development of an integrated medical plan, including, Medical Liaisons, Health Outcomes, and Clinical Research (natural history studies, registries) for assigned investigational agents.

  • Provide medical oversight for scientific review and approval of communication materials and medical materials in compliance with corporate standards and government/industry regulations.

  • Foster the establishment and maintenance of key external thought leaders through gaining knowledge on their insights and development of scientific/clinical engagement plans for key Alnylam disease areas.

  • Represent Alnylam at medical meetings, conferences, advisory boards, outreach meetings at key institutions, and in interactions with thought leaders.

  • Plan and coordinate global and national advisory boards to gain insights for key Alnylam disease areas.

  • Participate in long-range planning; develop and manage project plans, assess resource needs, and develop and implement processes and standards.


  • Knowledge of GPP2, ICJME and other application publications related industry rules and guidelines along with medical and clinical terminology knowledge

  • Excellent verbal/written communication and listening skills

  • Proven planning and organizational skills with experience managing multiple priorities; attention to detail and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment

  • Strong interpersonal skills in developing and maintaining professional relationships

  • Proven ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries

  • PharmD or PhD with a minimum 3 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry, or medical education company

  • Prior medical affairs, medical communications, publications and/or KOL management experience preferred

Reporting to VP of Medical Affairs this newly created position is responsible for the strategy, development, implementation, and reporting of medical communication activities that support the broader Medical Affairs strategy and corporate goals. This will include engaging with clinical experts, leading advisory boards, and creating and driving programs to support enrollment to our clinical trials in molecularly targeted populations. Responsibilities: Required Travel: 30% * Establish Publication Committee to ensure publication strategy alignment with global medical affairs objectives, provide ideas for generating manuscripts of scientific interests, and review manuscripts and abstracts to ensure accuracy and fair balance * Provide clinical leadership that establishes best practice interactions with external stakeholders (medical experts, advisory boards, patient advocacy groups), and internal stakeholders (Research, Development, Clinical Operations Marketing, HEOR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Communications) * Participate on US Grant Committee and ensure the development of appropriate medical education strategies, manage process for Request for Proposals (RFPs), and review grant requests to ensure compliance with local and regional mandates and alignment with educational goals and objectives * Plan and execute medical communication programs based on clinical interest and that support the commercialization strategies for Avapritinib, BLU-667, BLU-554, as well as for new / pipeline product-specific areas * Develop and manage Medical Affairs activities at scientific congresses; serve as a key advisor on congress/convention best practices and long-term strategy * Develop medical communications business plan and budget as part of the overall strategy for medical affairs * Assist in development and maintenance of processes, templates and SOPs pertaining to medical communications and medical education * Manage vendors to execute on agreed-upon US tactics and projects * Drive the implementation of round table meetings to support the development of consensus papers that address unmet medical needs * Maintain a thorough understanding of disease biology, scientific data, and competitive data in order to develop scientifically rigorous and high-quality products and programs * Ensure all Medical Communication activities are in compliance with applicable company, governmental, and industry guidelines within any given region Qualifications: * Advanced Clinical/Science degree or professional credentials required (MD/DO, PhD, PharmD, PA, NP) * A minimum of 6 years of experience in the biotech or pharmaceutical industry in Medical Affairs, with experience working with cross-functional in-house and field-based teams * Oncology-specific experience required. * Independent, able to multi-task effectively, and results-oriented with a hands-on attitude that thrives in a fast-paced and energetic environment * Strong organizational skills/business planning * Creative problem-solving skills * Manage and adhere to all Blueprint Medicines policies, ensuring compliance with corporate rules and government regulations * Organizational awareness (e.g., inter-departmental relationships, business priorities), including significant experience working cross-functionally and in global teams.
