The Amazon consumer shopping team has big plans for revolutionizing online shopping for millions of customers world-wide. We are looking for a leader for User Research to help us get to the next level. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and developing a team of senior, highly-skilled researchers. You will work closely with UX design, development, and product management to obtain formative and summative data that can be used to create an innovative and engaging shopping experience for customers world-wide on all devices. You'll be a key contributor in building, championing, and establishing the emerging User Research discipline at Earth's most customer-centric company. The ideal candidate will be creative, passionate, and pragmatic, with excellent communication skills, enduring optimism, and a great sense of humor.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a team of user researchers to drive impactful research that makes sense in Amazon's fast-paced, results-oriented environment.

  • Provide direction and vision for evolving the role of User Research in product development; identify opportunities to increase efficiency and impact.

  • Promote and utilize a variety of qualitative and quantitative methodologies throughout the development lifecycle.

  • Evaluate new and emerging methods and technologies and identify if and how to incorporate these into your team's toolkit.

  • Understand and communicate key Usability and User Experience considerations across teams and to Senior Management.

  • Help guide User Researchers with planning, prioritizing, and project work and requests; manage projects with in-house teams and external vendors; assist team members in defining, tracking, and reporting key user experience metrics; manage recruiter relationships and all aspects of research budgeting.

  • Ensure that all research needs are executed on time and at high quality levels; manage team initiatives, set priorities, manage scoping, and direct the team to ensure timely delivery.

  • Build positive, collaborative relationships across User Experience Design, Product Management, Visual Design, and Development teams to help produce world-class products.

  • Collaborate with User Experience Designers and Design Managers to evaluate, establish, and apply best practices, patterns, and guidelines.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Fluent in best practices for Information Architecture, Interaction Design, Usability, and Web Analytics; practical knowledge of Usability and User Centered Design processes and lifecycles; ability to provide and effectively communicate strategic and tactical recommendations based on Usability findings and optimal Design practices.

  • Experienced at building repeatable, sustainable processes that support operational excellence.

  • Passionate about developing others, including the provision of appropriate feedback for building a superlative, highly-productive team; a proven track record for managing and developing employees.

  • Effective working across organizational boundaries to manage and prioritize work; prior success with managing employees across multiple products and/or programs.

  • Experienced with integrating user research and a user-centric approach into Design and Product Development.

  • Skilled and creative at selecting the right method or mix of methods to provide insight to research questions and business goals, and not afraid to invent new methods when the right method does not exist.

  • Agile and full of initiative. You're not afraid to sign up for quick turn-around projects and timelines, and you regularly push your comfort zone to stretch and improve.

  • Highly collaborative, with a proven track record for working closely with teams to influence outcomes and propose new directions.

  • Obsessed about customer experience. You never settle for good enough, and continually inspire those around you to do better for the customer.

  • Finely tuned analytical skills. You pin-point the important information within a sea of data and are accomplished at communicating complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels.

  • Passionate about ecommerce and taking shopping to the next level.
