At a Glance

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Manager Transportation & Trade Compliance to join the Legrand North America Team in West Hartford, CT.

Provide management and strategic direction regarding trade compliance and freight. The Sr Manager will lead cross functional teams responsible for establishing the most cost effective, timely and secure movement of goods in all modes of transport (ocean, rail, TL, LTL, small package and air). This includes negotiating carrier contracts, managing carrier relationships, formulating and implementing policies and procedures and leading for continuous improvement. The Sr Manager will also assist in the preparation of financial budgets and will support management understanding of variance to budget. As necessary, the Sr Manager may also procure and oversee third party logistics partnerships.

This position will report to the Vice President of Strategic Sourcing and Purchasing, and will work closely to support other functional and business partners.

What Will You Do?

  • Develop strategic partnerships with carriers and manage entire procurement activities.

  • Control and improve transportation procurement costs.

  • Knowledge about import and export regulations in the global supply chain.

  • Direct all internal trade compliance initiatives within all operating divisions.

  • Manage third party service providers in trade compliance management.

  • Manage external resources, such as but not limited to consultants who support our trade compliance and supply chain programs.

  • Coordinate trade compliance functions internally with operations, finance, legal and with senior management.

  • Knowledge of 3PL systems, as well as fuel markets, transportation market capacity, and trends.

  • Manage and negotiate contracts and renewals with subcontractors and transportation suppliers.

  • Understanding of methodologies to drive a new business model and customer transportation setup needs.

  • Develop carrier quality program for all carriers under contract.

  • Develop and maintain necessary processes and service level agreements.

  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting customer relationships.

  • Facilitate development of standardized carrier KPI reporting across all transportation related operations to promote on-going improvement of carrier service and cost measures.

  • Effectively communicate and lead strategies across the organization.

  • Ability to demonstrate progressive profit and loss management in a multiple budget environment.

  • Use written and oral communication skills

  • Read and interpret data, information and documents

  • Analyze and solve non-routine and complex office administrative problems

  • Use math and mathematical reasoning

  • Observe and interpret situations

  • Learn and apply new information or skills

Qualifications

Required Skills

  • Bachelors in Supply Chain, Business, or Engineering. Masters Degree is a plus.

  • 5 plus years of strategic management of transportation and/or Operations, and trade compliance

  • Experience in Trade Compliance Management in Import & Export Operations

  • Strong computer and technology skills to include a proficiency in Excel Pivot Tables

  • Experience with NAFTA and C-TPAT

Preferred Skills

  • Solid supply chain process and value stream expertise.

  • Solid negotiation skills and understanding of pricing rate structures

  • Demonstrated success in working in a collaborative and cross functional team structure, being able to navigate through complex organizations, and influencing others.

  • Demonstrable track-record of strategic thinking and development of effective solutions to complex business challenges.

  • Excellent organizational and management skills to include the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and assign responsibilities accordingly, but also must be a hands-on leader able to conduct his/her own analysis models and business cases as necessary.

  • Excellent inter-personal, communication, and leadership skills.

  • Experience with E-Commerce International Warehousing preferred.

  • Experience with Transportation Management Systems preferred.
