We are the Items and Transaction team in the Buyer Experience Organization. Our team owns Item, Item Descriptions, Product, Transactions(Auction/BIN/Best Offer ) and various other transaction related experiences. We drive billions of dollars in revenue via millions of page views delivered daily across the globe, across all devices & browsers. Our team is highly visible and critical in the organization, has direct business impact to eBay's revenue and has customer impact globally. We are looking for a seasoned Engineering Manager with good balance of technology and people management skills; who has a keen desire to deeply understand our products and services to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability. What will you do?

  • Lead a talented full-stack team of Native app frontend and backend engineers

  • Mentor and guide the development of your team members in a tailored empathetic manner suited for each individual

  • Build collaborative and inclusive teams

  • Own your teams deliverables and ship high quality, maintainable software

  • Build and maintain a healthy prioritized backlog in alignment with the team goals

  • Collaborate with product managers, business units, analytics to brainstorm and build the next generation of our product and scale it.

  • Layout technical vision for the team

  • Push the bar to solve complex technical challenges of scale and performance

  • Think ahead and build with the future in mind

  • Maintain a balance between short term and long term goals while shipping high impact products quickly

  • Partner effectively and influence peers and senior leadership both within the organization and across eBay

Job Requirements

  • Experience leading or managing a small to medium-sized team of developers

  • Experience in building large scale distributed systems with high availability, scalability and resiliency

  • Proven results-oriented person with a focus on delivery in a high-velocity environment

  • Ability to grasp new areas; and adapt to changes

  • Great communication skills. Needs to articulate thoughts and proposals clearly

  • Experienced working in Agile teams

  • Familiarity with eCommerce is a plus

  • 10 years of work experience and 3+ years of leading or managing a team

You will be working at our Software Center of Excellence located in downtown Portland, Oregon. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: As a dedicated member of the New Markets organization, the Sr. Software Development Engineer will: * Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience. * Design and develop desktop client software * Write automated tests to accelerate development and prevent regressions * Collaborate with test team to debug software * Document specifications and design * Assist in technical support of product by diagnosing customer problems * Other duties as assigned Required Qualifications: You'll be great in the position if: * You have experience with C# Windows Desktop Developer (e.g., WCF, WiX, etc.) * You're comfortable consuming APIs and interpreting results. * You believe that good testing is critical to create good software. * You prefer working in a collaborative, team environment and have the strong communication skills necessary for effective teamwork. * You enjoy working with others in person. * You can effectively manage your time and are comfortable supporting and coaching others. Preferred Qualifications: Experience that will give you an edge * Experience with C# Windows / Mac development * Experience with Xamarin.Mac * Experience with internationalizing products * Experience with Google Analytics * Experience creating medical products or working in a regulated industry Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributor Plans, designs, develops and tests software systems or applications for software enhancements and new products including cloud-based or internet-related tools. Analyzes, designs, programs, debugs, and modifies software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, or Internet-related computer programs. Using current programming language and technologies, writes code, completes programming, and performs testing and debugging of applications. Completes documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. Functional/Business Knowledge: * Possesses broad understanding of technical principles and theories.
