Position Overview:

The Sr. Manager, R&D Product Development is responsible for developing a strategically guided development plan to manage and lead Kerr's Endodontic Files product portfolio. The position includes interacting with Key Opinion Leaders to assess customer needs and potential development projects. The individual will possess excellent people skills, project management abilities and be able to identify and prioritize opportunities. Experience developing milestone based budgets and successfully leading the R&D department to on time completion of the needed projects within budget is a key requirement. This position works cross-functionally with other departments. This person must be able to manage a variety of team members, provide strategic input on long-range business plans, manage budgets, provide leadership across departments and ensure that all FDA, ISO and GMP regulations are being met.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leads and/or manages mid-high complexity programs in R&D for the Endodontic Files and gutta percha product lines.

  • Manage all New Product Development (NPD) and Sustaining R&D activities for the Endodontic Files and gutta percha product portfolio.

  • Supervises staff of Mechanical Products group including Engineers, Research Associates, Design Quality, Project Managers and Technicians as directed.

  • Manages NPD projects through APD (Accelerated Product Development, Toll Gate) process as required; including organic developments, licensing, and private label projects. Accountable for on time delivery of NPD pipeline, project budgets and coordination of internal and external testing.

  • Manages all Sustaining activities for Files/Gutta Percha Products portfolio of products including design changes, international registration work, cost savings, quality improvements, and advising manufacturing on processing matters.

  • Provides input to Mechanical Products strategic planning process.

  • Manages Mechanical Products R&D budget for efficacy and safety testing.

  • Leads personal and career development for Mechanical Products R&D staff

  • Interacts with management in R&D, Clinical/Regulatory Affairs, Customer Care, Marketing, Operations, Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain to ensure successful product development and introductions.

  • Provides regular updates to all Stakeholders on project status and progress being made.

  • Contributes to improvements in product development process.

  • Identify innovation opportunities to add value to programs and products and provide value for our customer, beyond defined project scope and constraints

  • Maintain Design History Files in accordance with established Company's Product Development Process

  • Strong quality orientation and customer focus. Provide training and mentorship on good design control practice

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Mechanical Engineering or similar technical field
  • 8+ years of experience in product development, preferably in the medical device industry
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering management and/or technical lead, preferably in the medical device industry.
  • 3+ years of experience working with FDA and ISO 13485 requirements

Preferred:

  • Master's degree is a plus.

  • Metallurgy, CNC, Endodontic File engineering or R&D a plus

  • PMP or PGM certification a plus.

Abilities:

  • Outstanding track record driving projects to completion on time, within budget and in high quality.

  • Must be proficient in the use of project management tools to develop schedules, allocate resources, and establish program budgets

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Experience with all phases of product development (feasibility, core development, sustaining engineering, and cost reduction).

  • Excellent leadership skills and experience leading high-performance teams

The position will lead projects that will improve or maintain compliance with the organization's policies and procedures relating to Privacy and Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA). The incumbent works with CalOptima management staff, health network/physician groups, members, state regulators, law enforcement and others as required. Position Responsibilities: * Create, review, revise CalOptima's privacy and FWA policies and procedures, templates and forms in coordination with management and administration. Obtain regulatory approval for member facing materials. * Performs investigations of complexity from referrals by internal and external sources, including the Compliance hotline. Conduct risk assessments; maintains accurate documentation, completes investigations within required timeframes. * Monitors CalOptima and its delegates' compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Issue corrective action plans (CAPs) when deficiencies are identified. * Works with organizational and delegate personnel, conducts research and provides analysis with respect to the release of protected health information (PHI); ensures full coordination and cooperation under CalOptima's policies and procedures and legal requirements. * Develops Privacy and FWA training materials; leads delivery of training to multiple audiences. * Develops and maintains privacy and FWA related databases, tracking tools and auditing tools. Update tools as necessary to ensure to effectiveness. * Conducts research and provides guidance, advice or recommendations to internal departments, health networks or others relating to complex privacy and FWA issues. * Utilizes data analytic software and apply data mining techniques to identify abnormal billing and utilization patterns. * Develops and revises overpayment recovery letters. Prepares claim information, reviews data, initiate recovery process for improperly paid claims on complex cases. * Prepares summaries and reports on FWA and Privacy cases for referral to regulatory agencies and on investigations for Compliance committee, and Board reports. Completes annual reporting of breaches to Office for Civil Rights. * Coordinates preparation efforts for regulatory audits. Performs initial review of universes and file presentations; conducts data validation activities. * Other projects and duties as assigned.
