Job Overview:

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. CMCs are an enabling material that increases the temperature capability of jet engine components. Through successful development and application of these materials, P&W will deliver engines that are more fuel efficient, lighter weight and more durable for commercial and military applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct all CMC manufacturing operations including planning, staffing, training and development, safety, quality improvements, cost management, lead time reduction, supply chain, and total productivity.

  • Responsible for collaborating with product and process engineering teams to produce high quality products with competitive costs and lead times.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.

  • Continuously improve methods, processes, and facilities to improve productivity and cost effectiveness. Employ 6 Sigma methods to assess and develop processes to achieve high yield and consistent product quality.

  • Lead the development and implementation of a manufacturing strategy based on lean production principles. Establish and maintain effective communication with all site employees regarding company and plant objectives, goals, plans and programs.

  • Evaluate and oversee implementation of innovative technology including automation to improve return on investment and achieve lower cost within manufacturing facilities.

  • Support initiative to collect and analyze comprehensive process data as part of the digital thread for CMC manufacturing and implementation.

  • Staff, train and develop the operations team to meet company objectives and productivity goals.

  • Model and promote environmental health & safety processes and programs in compliance with regulations and UTC standards. Provide full compliance with the UTC policies and the UTC Code of Ethics which include ensuring staff are aware of the policies and their responsibilities for upholding these policies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology)
  • 10+ years of Engineering, manufacturing and R&D experience, or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Travel: up to 10%

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong leadership behaviors that emphasize goal setting, team empowerment and providing support

  • Strong organizational, leadership and time management skills in a fast-paced, high mix manufacturing or R&D setting

  • Ability to make suggestions and informed decisions quickly.

  • Strong continuous improvement focusses and experience in leading Lean/Six Sigma improvements.

  • Prior experience in composites or aerospace is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge and effective practice of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements

  • Knowledge and effective practice of aerospace quality practices like ISO9001 AS9100

What is my role type?

In addition to transforming the future of flight, we are also transforming how and where we work. We've introduced role types to help you understand how you will operate in our blended work environment. This role is:

  • Onsite: Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance workers, as they are essential to the development of our engines.

This position is open to internal applicants only within Pratt & Whitney. To help shore up our military programs, we are looking to reallocate resources to USG direct charging roles and therefore consider this to be an internal to Pratt movement. We may look to open these opportunities upon more broadly once we complete the initial Pratt talent moves.

Candidates will learn more about role type and current site status throughout the recruiting process. For onsite and hybrid roles, commuting to and from the assigned site is the employee's personal responsibility.

The salary range for this role is 130,000 USD - 272,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

Hired applicants may be eligible for annual short-term and/or long-term incentive compensation programs depending on the level of the position and whether or not it is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement. Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company's performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
