Overview

Waters Corporation is currently seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented candidate to lead our Materials Planning team based in Milford, MA with responsibility of 2 manufacturing sites in Mass. This position will oversee a professional staff of (10) Buyers, who are responsible for management of purchase orders and support activities to ensure material availability for Manufacturing Operations. Key financial ownership - direct spend, inventory investment & expense and total freight for the sites.

The team works with key domestic and international suppliers to satisfy requirements of internal customers. The team coordinates a diverse portfolio of commodities supporting a product family consisting of analytical laboratory / medical device instrumentation specifically used for Liquid Chromatography, Supercritical Fluid Chromatography and consumable chemistry products.

The successful candidate will be a passionate and agile leader, who strives to deliver superior value to our internal and external customers every day. They will have the ability to improve the effectiveness of the current procurement processes and systems leading to improved inventory performance, material availability and plan attainment. This hands-on position requires dynamic leadership, excellent interpersonal skills, problem solving, critical thinking as well as a compelling initiative to see the organization succeed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership to and effectively manage the Materials Planning teams at both Waters' Manufacturing sites in Massachusetts - Milford (position base) and Taunton

  • Serve as a key member of the manufacturing leadership team at both sites

  • Drive transformation in materials planning by implementing new tools and processes in conjunction with the global supply chain

  • Direct oversight of material spend of $170 and average raw material inventory of $60M for both locations

  • Accountable for managing and optimizing the inbound freight and associated expenses using contracts and TMS

  • Ensure procurement activities are managed and driven to meet agreed build plans and to best in class practices

  • Analyze the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) output to ensure supply and appropriate inventory levels are maintained.

  • Proactively get firm supplier commitments, identify and engage in critical supplier issues, and bring up through the proper channels as needed to ensure timely delivery of purchased parts.

  • Evolve KPIs and dashboards measuring Purchase Order status, clear-to-build, and inventory management

  • Work cross functionally with Production Planning, Stockroom, Supply Planning, Production & Engineering to improve the flow of materials & information.

  • Ensure item master accuracy & maintenance of MRP parameters, such as safety stock, order quantities, lead time, transit times

  • Refine internal inventory management processes, optimize inventory levels ensuring proper levels of raw material and in-process inventory to minimize business risk.

  • Maintain strong relationships with the suppliers. Work closely with Global Sourcing & Commodity Management on developing new supply sources and supporting cost reduction initiatives.

  • Support new product development, introductions and the successful transition to volume manufacturing

  • Formulate and document standard procedures for the Procurement Department and incorporate standard processes to ensure operational efficiencies

  • Create competitive advantage by hiring the right people and developing, coaching and enabling talent.

This position is Hybrid in Milford, MA

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5-7 years Materials Planning and Purchasing Management experience

  • Direct experience in ERP / Planning System upgrade and process transformation

  • Bachelor's degree required; Advanced degree preferred

  • Strong leadership skills, self-directed and the ability to make independent decisions

  • Advanced proficiency with SAP (ECC and APO) and Microsoft applications required

  • APICS CPIM certification or equivalent desired

  • Familiarity with cGMP, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 13485:2016 is desired

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, written and presentation skills

  • Passion for driving continuous improvement and operational excellence; Sound understanding of Lean principles

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and drive corrective actions
