Job Overview

The Senior Manager, Organized Retail Crime proactively identifies organized retail crime (ORC) activity and trends. They develop strategies to reduce organized retail criminal activity against Macy's. Other duties are performed as assigned.

What You Will Do

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate investigations into organized criminal activity.

  • Utilize field surveillance tactics to develop and validate organized retail crime (ORC) investigations involving individuals and establishments of interest.

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

  • Collect, analyze, and monitor intelligence by networking with state and local ORC associations, as well as utilizing online tools and resources.

  • Identify criminal trends and patterns to develop investigative leads.

  • Source local intelligence from criminal entities, law enforcement, and retail partners.

  • Conduct training on resources, tools, and technology to aid and support in ORC case closures.

  • Support Supply Chain investigations, specifically focusing on cargo theft and organized theft rings impacting facilities.

  • Identify and implement strategies to reduce criminal activity.

  • Lead Multi-Store Taskforce detective teams in response to emerging theft trends and loss data.

  • Recruit, train, and develop Multi-Store Taskforce detective teams.

  • Prepare and communicate major investigations to senior leadership.

  • Provide testimony in criminal, civil, or administrative proceedings on behalf of the company.

  • Direct and follow up on all aspects of court-ordered restitution and pursue other financial recovery aspects, including Gift Cards and Seizures.

  • Coordinate and cooperate with law enforcement agencies (federal, state, local) and prosecuting attorney's offices in directing investigations and presenting cases for prosecution.

  • Network with retail counterparts to collaborate and advance active investigations by expanding loss impact.

  • Provide analytical and statistical ORC theft data to the Director and Senior Director to educate senior leadership and advocate for legislative reform.

  • Effectively educate and communicate criminal trends causing loss to our stores.

  • Conduct training at the store level on ORC trends, indicators, and solutions.

  • Maintain a communication network facilitating the flow of investigative information related to e-commerce fencing of stolen goods.

  • Maintain regular, dependable attendance, and punctuality.

Skills You Will Need

Investigative Skills: Proficiency in leading, managing, and coordinating investigations into organized criminal activity, including the ability to utilize field surveillance tactics to develop and validate organized retail crime (ORC) investigations.

Relationship Building: Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, as well as with retail partners.

Analytical Abilities: Capability to collect, analyze, and monitor intelligence by networking with state and local ORC associations, and utilizing online tools and resources to identify criminal trends and patterns.

Strategic Thinking: Skill in identifying and implementing strategies to reduce criminal activity, including supporting Supply Chain investigations and leading Multi-Store Taskforce detective teams.

Communication Skills: Effective communication skills, including the ability to prepare and communicate major investigations to senior leadership, provide testimony in legal proceedings, and educate and communicate criminal trends to store-level staff.

Leadership and Team Development: Strong leadership abilities, including recruiting, training, and developing Multi-Store Taskforce detective teams, and the capacity to direct and follow up on all aspects of investigations and legal proceedings.

Collaboration: Ability to coordinate and cooperate with law enforcement agencies and prosecuting attorney's offices, as well as network with retail counterparts to collaborate on investigations and advocate for legislative reform.

Adaptability: Resourcefulness and adaptability to quickly adapt to changing priorities and work well independently as well as part of a team.

  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 3-5 years of direct experience.

  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

  • Ability to sustain extended periods of CCTV and/or PC screens to facilitate surveillance or analysis.

  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on department and company needs.

  • Able to travel within division/market of responsibility with periodic need to travel overnight based on the needs of the business. The position requires a regular physical presence in Macy's store locations.
