A Little About the Role
As a Sr Manager of Technical Writing, you will drive the overall content strategy and roadmap for our suite of advertiser, publisher, and analytics products while also coaching and mentoring a team of high-performing technical writers. We design and build products and services that help marketers, publishers, and developers to build more meaningful connections with their audience, get better results, and grow through unique insights.
The technical writing team is responsible for the content within our interactive experiences, help centers, learning centers, system generated emails, and API documentation. As the leader of the team, you'll be involved in nearly every aspect of the product development process and will be responsible for driving ideas from conception through execution and evaluation. You will collaborate with leaders of Design, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales teams to bring innovative, well crafted experiences to life. You will have ample opportunity to practice and grow your strategic thinking skills as you create and execute on a short term and long term roadmap for our product suite.
Most importantly, you'll act as a servant leader who can elevate and grow our technical writer's skills while also taking our products to the next level.
Lead a team of Technical Writers by setting the goals, priorities and vision
Provide regular performance feedback, reviews, and coaching to help the team increase their impact and grow their careers
Define repeatable processes, playbooks, and standards for the team
Define the short term and long term vision for content within our product suite, help centers, learning centers, and API documentation. Create quarterly objectives and define key results (OKRs) for the team. Drive the long term vision by defining a roadmap and implementation strategy.
Lead content strategy and effectively communicate your vision. Influence a global cross-functional partner team to align to the vision.
Build a strong culture within the greater product org by promoting content design to counterparts in Design, Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales. Promote content design across Verizon Media and Verizon
Measure your impact by synthesizing data to inform your strategy and communicate how content is performing
Ensure work across the team is of the highest quality and the implemented outcomes accurately reflect the content strategy vision.
A Little About You
Strong writing background and passion for creating beautiful products that work well. You have experience in the enterprise space with a particular emphasis on products that feature a lot of interaction
5+ years of direct management experience
Experience recruiting, building, and managing teams--experience standing up a content design/technical writing team is a bonus!
Ability to benchmark and use performance metrics to measure your impact
Experience writing for technical and non-technical audiences
Solid craftsmanship: skilled in both the theory and practice of writing, up-to-date on patterns, able to differentiate between trends and emerging best practices, comfortable with a range of content management tools, familiar with user research methods, and a firm understanding of user-centered design and when to apply different tools and processes to achieve a great outcome.
You are passionate and enthusiastic about leadership and the impact servant leaders can have on a technical writer's career. You have experience leading teams for multiple years and have coached high performing, high impact technical writers to success.
