Position Overview
The Senior Manager of Learning and Evaluation (LEM) reports to the Impact Director and is responsible for AmeriCorps member Learning & Development, observation & coaching, evaluation, and Whole School, Whole Child (WSWC) program implementation quality. The Sr. LEM ensures effective service delivery and personal and professional growth for AmeriCorps members, evaluates program effectiveness, and supports a positive service year experience and Leadership After City Year (LACY) preparedness. This role also focuses on fostering high-quality service delivery and a strong City Year culture by building leadership and practitioner skills in members. Additionally, the Sr. LEM serves as the site evaluation lead, supporting the collection and analysis of student-level data, manages student progress monitoring, and collaborates with the Impact Director and City Year Inc. Learning and Development, Impact, and Service Delivery points to develop and implement the site's learning and development strategy. This position requires a skilled educator and effective communicator with a passion for equitable education and a belief in the transformative power of young people.
Job Description
Primary Responsibilities
Implement and Manage AmeriCorps Member Learning and Development
Create, implement and manage CYPVD Learning and Development strategy, aligned with the HQ curriculum, to build site's capacity to maximize Impact and ensure corps member training is aligned with and focused on meeting key service outcomes.
Collaborate with the site Impact Director and Impact Managers, HQ Impact, and Service Delivery to develop the site's overall strategy for learning and development through thoughtful and timely data analysis and progress monitoring and takes into account varied trainings for high school and college graduates to help AmeriCorps members in their service delivery and to develop service delivery and leadership skills.
Plan and execute all Learning and Development for the site, Lead content design and delivery of training to meet site learning needs for effective academic and socio-emotional learning services.
Serve as site Learning & Development point to ensure successful implementation of program.
Successfully manage the Learning and Development budget that supports the site's L&D strategy.
In partnership with the Impact Staff, coordinate AmeriCorps Team Leader training throughout the year
Secure venues and other resources for training,
Evaluate the Learning and Development program on an ongoing basis to ensure training aligns with the program service model, meets corps members, Impact staff, and external partner needs.
Develop and manage external relationships with speakers/ trainers/facilitators who can support the Learning and Development program and provide high-quality learning and training to AmeriCorps members.
Ensure high quality content development and delivery
Program Evaluation and Progress Monitoring
Manage the collection and analysis of student-level data to improve in-school service. In partnership with data analytics staff, create targeted reports for impact teams, district partner, funders, educators, and others. Provide leadership in qualitative data analysis, secure timely partner surveys, lead AmeriCorps reporting, and guide Impact Managers in evaluating service and measuring corps member impact. Ensure timely delivery of reports and other deliverables to City Year HQ.
Serve as evaluation representative for the site.
Manage student-level data collection and analysis to enhance in-school service, collaborating with the data and analytics coordinator for impact performance metric data
Monitor student-level progress and performance data and maintain cyschoolhouse, City Year's internal data management system(e.g., academic assessment scores, course grades, behavior incidents, daily attendance).
Guide Impact Managers in evaluating service and measuring corps member impact.
Create targeted (monthly, quarterly, yearly) reports for impact teams, district partners, funders, and educators, working with data analytics staff.
Train Impact staff and provide ongoing coaching on impact outputs, data entry, and usage, serving as the evaluation representative for the site.
Analyze site-wide quantitative data and create action steps in response
Lead calls, training sessions, and meetings with appropriate Impact staff throughout the year, to support evaluation activities and build organizational learning
Collaborate with other departments to refine systems and policies for improved data collection, integrity, and dissemination, while maintaining cyschoolhouse, City Year's internal data management system, and providing support in qualitative data analysis and partner surveys
AmeriCorps Member Experience & Leadership After City Year (LACY)
Support and execute AmeriCorps Member Experience initiatives, such as recognition activities, to promote a positive service year. Collaborate with site leadership and the Impact team to coordinate Leadership After City Year (LACY) and career development opportunities, meeting corps members' needs and building relationships with partners aligned with their interests.
Support the planning and execution of AmeriCorps Member Experience initiatives (e.g., recognition and appreciation activities) to promote a positive service year.
Coordinate Leadership After City Year (LACY) career development and post-service year opportunities in collaboration with site leadership and the Impact team.
Build relationships with partners and stakeholders based on corps members' personal and professional interests
Participation in Organizational Initiatives
Advance the site's vision and goals by enhancing collaboration and alignment between departments and with the national service team. Critically examine the organization's direction and implement widespread policy changes as necessary. Partner with the City Year Regional Recruitment Department, Development Department, and Operations Department to ensure site-wide goals are met through the applicant interview process, stakeholder engagement, service day participation, and cross-departmental committees as needed
Devote up to 10 days per year to conduct AmeriCorps member recruitment interviews.
Assist with MLK Day, Opening Day, Annual Gala, Graduation, and other site-wide designated events.
Attend City Year trainings, conferences, and other local and national events.
Skills and Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree required in Education, Social Work, Urban Studies, Youth Work, or related field
Master's Degree in Education, Teaching, Teaching and Learning (MATL), or Education Policy preferred
3+ years of experience working with or for an urban school district
Experience teaching and leading learning experiences for students in grades 3-9 preferred
Fluency in educational standards and metrics, with the ability to direct improvements to instructional practice using data
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Strong group facilitation skills
Demonstrated successful track record in differentiating instruction for diverse learners and improving student achievement
Knowledge of the Providence/Rhode Island community and educational organizations
Experience and demonstrated expertise as an Instructional Coach
Strong knowledge of literacy and/or mathematics/Common Core Mathematics and/or English Language Arts and Literacy Standards
Experience teaching Multilanguage/English Language Learners
Special education license, experience, and/or expertise is a plus
