SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

Responsible for assessing geological conditions, analyzing rock mechanics, providing technical guidance, ensuring the integrity and stability of structures, foundations, and earthworks. Role will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality solutions that adhere to regulatory standards. Role will be pivotal in optimizing excavation techniques that safeguard personnel and equipment, while maintaining mining efficiency and facilitating surface construction activities.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Conduct comprehensive site assessments to evaluate the geological and geotechnical conditions of the mines and supporting infrastructure.

  • Contribute to the design and engineering of mine infrastructure, including open pits, underground workings, waste dumps and tailings storage facilities to optimize excavation designs, slope angles and ground support systems to ensure safe and efficient mining operations.

  • Analyze rock formations, soil properties, fault lines and other geological features to understand the ground conditions and potential challenges.

  • Identify and assess potential geotechnical hazards and risks associated with the mining operations. Including, evaluation of ground stability, slope stability, seismic activity, groundwater condition and other factors that could impact the safety and stability of the mine infrastructure.

  • Develop and implement ground control strategies to mitigate the risk of ground instabilities, rockfalls, collapses and other geotechnical hazards.

  • Design and install rock reinforcement systems, ground support structures and monitoring instrumentation to assess ground movements and stability over time.

  • Ensure the accuracy and reliability of geotechnical analyses, reports, and deliverables, adhering to industry standards and best practices.

  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical considerations into overall project designs.

  • Ensure the mine development and operations comply with relevant regulations, codes, and permitting requirements established by USA regulatory agencies.

  • Mentor, guide and give technical support to junior engineers and fellow colleagues fostering their professional growth and development.

  • Stay up to date on emerging technologies, methodologies, industry trend, evaluating new technologies and monitoring techniques.

Technical Competencies:

  • Experience with geotechnical modelling and planning software.

  • Deep understanding of soil classifications, stress distribution, groundwater flow and rock mechanics along with foundation engineering principles.

  • Preferred experience with Autodesk/AutoCAD.

  • Understanding of geotechnical requirements for SK-1300 reserve and resource declarations.

  • Proficiency in planning, executing site investigations and interpreting laboratory results.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Geotechnical engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in a geotechnical focused mine-based role in surface or underground mining.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification is strongly preferred.

  • Previous experience as a QP.

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

  • Operational experience in a large scale, open pit hard rock mining.

  • Experience in site investigation, analysis, design, and project management.

  • Experience working with various government agencies. e.g., BLM, USFS, EPA, local utilities.

  • Knowledge of relevant compliance standards and statutory requirements.

  • Possess strong technical skills in areas such as: Soil and rock mechanics, foundation, and slope stability analysis, along with Seismic analysis/design and ground improvement techniques.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and professional development in new technologies, methodologies, and industry trends.

Legal Requirements:

  • Maintain Confidentiality

  • Licensed to operate a vehicle, preferably in the State of Nevada.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5pm. Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. As per operational requirements.

Base Salary Range $200,000 - $220,000
