In this role you will manage a team of database engineers to build and maintain exciting experiences for our customers. This position will own analyzing the organization's database needs and long-term strategies to support our database.

Major Activities
Database Engineering (50%)
Oversee the design, implementation and maintenance of database systems that provide reliability, performance and availability and scale up to millions of concurrent users
Provide architectural and design input with ability to dive deep into technical details as required
Have a high level of comfort with analytical approaches and quantitative methods
Develop and execute systems strategies to support business goals
Develop and leverage internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize the achievement of business goals
Ensure scalability and performance metrics are achieved
Serve as a change agent for customers and ensure work activities benefit customers
Leads the effort to establish operational processes for systems maintenance, updates and upgrades.
Partners with infrastructure directors to drive and own the incident management and recovery process.
Ensures key ITIL based metrics are in place to measure and enforce service delivery.
Design, implement and maintain effective disaster recovery technologies.
Ensure back up recovery capabilities are in place, tested and daily execution of the program is sustained.
Partner with Disaster Recovery lead on exercises.
Ensure project milestones/goals are met while adhering to approved budgets.
Team Leadership (50%)
Manage highly skilled cross-functional team of database engineers and administrators.
Hire and lead database engineering teams responsible for delivering growth related initiatives.
Be responsible for the growth of the team including individuals' career growth, skill set development, and hiring the right resources
Provide mentorship with a lens on continuous improvement
Develop and implement strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of major databases and programming languages, i.e. MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle, MS SQL, Java, Python, C, C++, etc.
Strong knowledge in DB admin function with exposure to cloud migrations
Minimum Education
Minimum Type of Experience the Job Requires
10+ years of experience in large scale production database engineering and development
2+ years leading engineering teams with growing responsibility
Deep technical experience in large scale environments
Internal and cloud infrastructure model

Ability to navigate a rapidly changing landscape, while handling multiple responsibilities
Curious about new technology and always looking to acquire new knowledge
Strong business and financial acumen
Computer Science fundamentals experience in object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms
Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
Significant experience as a successful tech leader building, managing and mentoring engineering teams in large scale, highly available Internet applications
Demonstrated ability to attract, develop, and retain high quality engineering talent
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent project management skills
Be an action oriented, independent, self-starter comfortable working in an unstructured, fast paced environment
Proven ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive products and competing priorities simultaneously with minimum guidance and high attention to detail
