The Global Risk Management and Corporate Claims team is seeking a Sr. Risk Manager to lead the Commercial Auto Claims team. This person will lead a technical risk team of seven direct reports and a total staff of 20 including attorneys, claims handlers, and program managers. This technical risk team works with our TPA and is responsible for assessing, mitigating, and managing Amazon's exposure from on road accidents resulting in third party bodily injury and/or property damage. This role will collaborate will key stakeholders including legal, finance, business ops, and safety to optimize resolution strategies and mitigate future risk. Additionally, the role will continue to improve TPA performance and internal processes to drive efficiencies as well as partner with business analytics to identify and deploy AI opportunities. This role will track and analyze large data and communicate to leadership program metrics, and loss trends.

Key job responsibilities

Within the Global Risk Management and Claims team, you will support and report to the Global Corporate Claims Senior Risk Manager, focusing on holistically leading, managing, and moving forward the corporate auto claims management team responsible for mitigating financial exposure resulting from claims across transportation programs Duties may include the following:

  • Lead, grow, and develop a remote team who manage commercial auto claims and oversee TPA handling;

  • Collaborate with internal legal to develop litigation strategies and manage outside counsel to ensure optimal claim results;

  • Partner with our TPA to drive best in class claim handling resulting in cost efficient claim outcomes;

  • Utilize and/or establish analytics, metrics, and benchmarking through multiple sources to evaluate loss trends and cost of risk to prioritize resources;

  • Communicate to cross functional leadership via meetings and written monthly business reviews loss trends, and high exposure complex claims, and recommend risk mitigation strategies;

  • Partner with Fintech on scalable technology solutions including AI, to move the program forward;

  • Provide data and context to safety partners to improve processes;

  • Oversee claims data for loss submissions and address insurers' on-going questions and issues through claims resolution as needed.

A successful candidate will have the skills to:

  • Build trust with stakeholders across the multiple business lines, as well as within the Global Risk Management organization.

  • Use a wide-ranging toolbox of engagement strategies and tactics to diplomatically navigate complex situations, challenging interactions, and conflicting priorities to maintain alignment and progress.

  • Lead a highly successful team of subject matter experts in the auto claims arena.

  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills and instincts with stakeholders at all levels. Deliver concise and effective messages to a variety of audiences with the right detail and timing.

About the team

This leader will manage a team of 7 direct reports with a total staff of 27 including attorneys, claim professionals, and program managers.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • JD preferred and BS/BA degree required.
  • 10+ years' experience in Risk Management.
  • 3+ years managing a large team.
  • 5+ years' experience in transportation, fleets or large auto claims programs.
  • 5+ years of financial or related analytical experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Expertise in commercial auto insurance policies.

  • Experience in process improvement using Lean and Kaizen methods.

  • Intellectually strong and highly analytical with the ability to use data to drive desired results.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $142,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $236,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
