Job Overview:

The Senior Manager, Colleague & Labor Relations is a leader and role model actively deploying HR skills and expertise for the betterment of colleagues and the success of Bloomingdale's. This role is a Colleague and Labor Relations leader, serving as a change agent with the ability to negotiate and influence change as needed. They effectively prioritizes and drives the Colleague relations and labor relations initiatives for the Stores.

They will play a key role in partnering with cross-functional Macy's Inc. teams (Labor Relations and Colleague Advisory) to ensure all labor and escalated colleague relations situations are handled promptly and effectively to mitigate risk.

This position will require someone who is highly collaborative with a proven track record of delivery, working with and influencing senior executives in a cross-functional context and using sound judgment and qualitative data to drive decision making.

The Senior Manager will deliver seamless colleague and labor experiences to our colleagues and the stores leadership team.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Strategize, effectively prioritize and drive the colleague relations and labor relations initiatives for the Stores organization. Raise risks, issues and help ensure decisions are made in a timely manner.

  • Partner with Talent & Performance Development Center of Excellence to identify training opportunities and to ensure themes are captured in leadership development plans

  • Ensure appropriate implementation and administration of the Collective Bargaining Agreements, adjudicating all disputes arising from application and interpretation of the Agreements

  • Utilize strong and effective business partnership with the Stores Team and our Central partners (i.e. Concessions team) to drive HR initiatives, providing objective perspective to include related risk assessment enabling Bloomingdale's to reach educated decisions

  • Serve as point person for all Bloomingdale's locations when union activity, or threat of union activity, is present

  • Act as main point partner for the Macy's Policy team to ensure Bloomingdale's policies are updated, relevant and in compliance

  • Oversee communication and follow up of escalated investigations arising from Colleague Advisory investigations, Solutions in Store, labor grievances and Global Compliance calls

  • Understands the competitive associate and labor landscape (identifying and implementing best practices through competitive analysis)

Qualifications and Competencies:

We encourage candidates with either a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field to apply

5+ years related experience

  • Excellent leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work, influence and gain consensus across functional lines and at many levels

  • Manage conflict and resolve issues when the occur

  • Strong collaboration and relationship orientation: Ability to build partnerships with key business stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage smarter decision-making across our organization.

  • Outstanding communication skills: high level of confidence and independence

  • Ability to juggle multiple projects - can identify primary and secondary objectives, prioritize tasks, and communicate timeline and actions needed to stakeholders

  • Intellectually curious with strong analytical skills; ability to turn ambiguous subject matter into problems and actionable solutions

  • Maintains confidentiality and security of sensitive company information

  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule based on department and Company needs

  • Work Hours: Full Time

  • Location: Stores/Corporate Offices/Hybrid

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires periods of walking, standing, hearing, talking, reaching with extended arms, crouching, and climbing ladders

  • Frequent use of computers and other office equipment

  • Requires close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus

  • Frequently lift/move up to 25 lbs.
