Sr. Logistics and Package Planning Engineer
The successful candidate will be responsible for defining all logistic processes internal to the Vector rocket manufacturing facility which includes getting the parts from the dock to the warehouse and from the warehouse to the lineside location. They will also be responsible for shipping of final vehicle to various launch sites at various global locations.
They will also be responsible for working with the supply chain to define and develop the logistics and transportation from the supplier to Vector's dock door. They will need to understand the racking/returnables and the needs required to properly transport these parts in order not to be damaged during the transportation process and most cost effective. They will be responsible for defining all packaging requirements for the Vector rocket components which will include large composite parts as well as the completed vehicle.
This person will ensure that all packaging needed for components from supplier to Vector manufacturing facilities will be properly engineered, developed, procured and implemented into the process. This position also requires the planning and implementation for logistics and transportation of the final vehicle ensuring the vehicle gets to the launch sites timely and safely. All logistics flow and traffic internal to the manufacturing plant will also be defined and developed along with effective tracking where and when necessary of packaging.
Key Responsibilities / Functional Role & Duties: Development of total process plan for Vector to effectively move parts and finished product throughout the manufacturing facility and to/from suppliers.
Develop, design and implement logistic flow processes for the manufacturing facility along with any and all subassembly manufacturing locations. Develo and negotiate long term agreements with shipping companies. Completing background checks on transportation companies to cover ITAR compliance and assure shipping companies have acceptable certifications for all conditions/part types.
Coordinate all gas/propellant type shipments. Responsible for arranging and communicating with all transportation companies to facilitate all shipments. Develop, design and implement all aspects of packaging which will get final product safely to the various launch sites.
Work with manufacturing engineers to best define lineside layouts that facilitate the logistics process for speed and performance. Work with the ERP and MRP systems to effectively manage parts movements, dispositions, tracking, inventory, etc.. Work with manufacturing engineers and logistics planners to ensure material packaging and containers are properly planned for from their side in order that the packaging is able to be properly handled lineside at supplier, Vector manufacturing or launch sites for final vehicle. Must be a hands-on problem solver with strong logistics and material handling skills.
Work with suppliers to effectively develop and implement required packaging for parts ensuring parts arrive at Vector undamaged. Establish priorities and effectively manage projects to complete duties/projects within required time. Strong expertise in packaging, logistics layout, logistics flow and distribution processes.
Coordinate & prioritize requests made by all departments in order to ensure cohesiveness within the company in regards to logistics and distribution, monitoring and improvement, and resident expert in support of logistics, packaging and shipping/distribution topics. Perform other duties as assigned by manager to ensure corporate targets are achieved.Preferred Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Engineering (Aerospace/Materials/Manufacturing/Mechanical / Electrical / Industrial). Masters preferred.
Aerospace Packaging and Material Flow/Logistics experience preferred.Preferred Experience: 10+ Years of relevant experience in a aerospace operation. Experience within a aerospace logistics design, development and manufacturing environment with demonstrated ability to drive key targets in aerospace company. Experience driving & steering others to obtain desired results quality within aerospace industry including all aspects of the logistics and distribution process.
