As a Sr.

Linux Systems Engineer you will... Resolve Linux system issues; performing root cause analysis, modifying configurations, diagnosing network and storage issues, scripting, and other tasks as needed. Advocate for, design, and build a high caliber infrastructure of industry standard software development tools Act as a digital transformation agent for a sector in transition to modern software development practices Assist in the deployment of multiple types of Linux systems and applications by provisioning and configuring systems, using Puppet, Ansible, and Cobbler.

Be empowered to address, build and sustain, monitoring systems, antivirus, security and logging using tools, such as SolarWinds, Symantec, Nessus Security Center, and Splunk.

Architect, build and maintain, CI/CD tools, including GitLab, Artifactory, Fortify, Puppet, and Docker Craft innovative solutions to address open source challenges and security controls in a secured operations environment. Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you... Possess a BS degree (Computer Science preferred) or additional 5 years' experience. Have 5+ years' demonstrated experience as an operations engineer.

Are proficient in developing task automation. Have or can obtain an IAT Level II Certification including though not limited to Security+ CE Certification. Are willing and able to work a significant portion of the time in a closed area.

Hold or are able to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately acquire Secret level clearance. Candidates will be subject to a government secret clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information, if selected. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.

You will go above and beyond our minimum requirements if you... Have experience running RedHat Enterprise Linux. Have knowledge of classified computer facility operational procedures and NISPOM, DSS, RMF and/or other DOD security regimes. Have the ability to work independently on a wide variety of given tasks with minimal direction.

Are skilled in configuration management using Puppet and Ansible. Are knowledgeable of resource managers, collaboration tools, and CI/CD methods such as, Atlassian, GitLab, and SLURM. Have experience with heterogeneous Windows and Linux environments and data center operations including infrastructure, systems monitoring, and computer clusters of 100+ computers.

Have a demonstrated ability and interest in documenting systems and operational procedures. Preference for current security clearance. Why work at APL?
