We are provider of email solutions operate in 6 datacentres around the world. VIPRE run instances with the Ubuntu operating system using LXC technology to provision multiple virtual machines on each hardware node.These operating systems need to be upgraded, in line with the upgrade strategy implied by Ubuntu.
We operate a mixture of machines running Ubuntu 14.04, 16.04, 18.04The task will involve engineers working with the global operations team, located in the UK and the west coast of Canada to ensure a seamless upgrade of the machines which are in production. Therefore, the engineers will need to work a staggered schedule depending on the requirement to work with members in different timezones.The role will require engineers with excellent experience in Ubuntu and Ansible, with exposure to LXC as a benefit.The engineers will gain access to VIPRE extensive Ansible repository and production systems around the world and will need to adhere to VIPRE strict access policies and security guidance.The engineers will form a crucial part of the operations team and will need to work closely with the team to ensure the success of the project. They will need to provide regular updates and work to defined milestones set out once the discovery phase is complete.

Statement of work
- Identify machines that require upgrading
- Identify an appropriate way of removing them from production, causing minimal if no impact is possible; working with the global ops teams
- Work with ansible configuration management to make any required changes to facilitate an upgrade of OS and packages
- Schedule changes, working within the change management policies applied by VIPRE
- Perform upgrades and remediate any issues as a result, working with the global ops teams
- Write up documentation as needed to complete upgrades in the future
