As part of the Architecture & Engineering IP VPN organization, the Senior Lead Network Engineer will help CenturyLink to move beyond server/VM and OS orchestration and use their skills to automate the world's largest IP networks. The Senior Lead Network Engineer will focus on SD-WAN platform, appliances, and virtual servers. The ideal candidate will have 60/40 split in server administration and networking.
For server administration role, the candidate should have a strong systems-related skill set, including both bare metal and virtualized platforms supporting *nix and Windows OS. Experience with scripting and software development specific to network automation are also required. Some specific elements we're looking for are:
Wide/deep server level knowledge, from hardware all the way to open source distributions (HP preferred)
Scripting knowledge shell, python, Perl (preferably all three, but at least two)
Experience with multiple commercial cloud vendors AWS, Azure, etc
Experience with virtualization platforms both commercial (VMWare) and open source (QEMU/KVM)
Network and system automation/orchestration Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Terraform are all pluses
Experience with NETCONF/YANG a plus, as is XML/JSON API development
For networking role, this person is expected to be an expert in a myriad of vendors/technologies:
SD-WAN: Versa or other SD-WAN technology
Network Vendors: Juniper, Cisco, Alcatel Lucent
Expert, hands-on, familiarity with one or more of these vendors is required (preference given to Versa/Cisco/Juniper)
Layer 2 knowledge of Ethernet protocols (dot1q, QinQ) and switching architectures
Layer 3 - BGP, MPLS, IS-IS, etc, and their use in both provider networks and datacenter deployments (layer 3 leaf/spine)
Should have strong knowledge of wide variety of layer 4 and application level protocols
Understanding of tunneling and overlay configurations GRE, VXLAN, IPSec
The Senior Lead Network Engineer will lead complex projects that enable new product introduction as well as SD-WAN platform and network optimizations. Lastly, the Senior Engineer will proactively identify areas for network improvement and will drive these changes by leveraging peers and other organizations.
Bachelors degree or equivalent education and experience.
Typically 10+ years related experience
8+ years related experience with Masters degree.
