Position Summary:

As the Senior Internal/ External Communications Specialist, you will develop, implement and manage approved internal and/or external communications policies, programs and related activities responsible for development of new programs and strategic initiatives for the company. You will work closely with the senior leadership team in defining expectations and outcomes for the communications program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring internal and/or external communications programs

  • Collaborate with appropriate individuals inside and outside of the company to implement communications strategies

  • Assist in the implementation of communication programs per specialty requirements

  • Adhere to company guidelines and guidance on all communication related activities

  • May be required to interface with senior management and project teams

  • Support and communicate the mission, values and culture of the organization

  • Keep current contacts list of business and facility representatives

  • Schedule monthly calls with ambassadors to generate and find out potential internal news stories

  • Keep in touch with ambassadors to find out about events and news between calls

  • Manage scheduling, production and distribution of internal Newsletter (Newsstand)

  • Keep weekly deadline for newsletter distribution

  • Manager internal DRS news site on company Intranet

  • Keep track of corporate, company-wide and business unit events and major program awards, trade shows and write/ assign stories about them

  • Write/edit stories from ambassadors

  • Manage freelance writer and assign stories as needed

  • Work with graphic artist to build images for stories and Newsstand build-out

  • Excellent attention to detail (spelling, grammar, layout tweaks, etc.)

  • Manage video and still photography from facilities and businesses

  • Keep track of list of banner and job fair tools for business unit and corporate HR teams

  • Help HR teams with communication recruiting tools (banners, printed material, graphics to be built)

  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required or equivalent combination of education and a minimum of 5 years' experience

  • Requires outstanding communication, organizational, planning and execution skills

  • Ability to execute and implement projects with minimal guidance

  • Candidate must be high-energy and a self-motivated team player

  • Ability to communicate well with all levels of management

  • Ability to integrate communications programs within all areas of the business and a knowledge of techniques for effective communications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and functions as a self-starter, motivator, consensus builder and collaborator

  • Must be able to travel approximately 10 to 25% of the time

  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds

Our work combines research, policy, and technology to support education from early childhood (birth to age 5) through post-secondary. SRI Education has a diverse portfolio of education work including federal, state, commercial, and foundation-funded projects. The Communications Specialist position will provide support for the dissemination of SRI-developed products in the Education Division including project reports and deliverables. Education Division clients include federal, state, and local government agencies as well as private and corporate foundations. We see communication and dissemination as critical elements in our mission of improving systems and plan along the way to maximize reach and impact. The communications specialist will be expected to work side-by-side with our researchers and technical assistance providers to develop and implement communication and dissemination strategies that maximize for a variety of audiences. This includes dissemination on website, list-servs, and social media, as well as in-person events. The communications specialist would also be expected to build the capacity of junior staff to lead communication and dissemination tasks. The Communications Specialist will work with Education Division leaders and Corporate Communications team to develop, refine and periodically update the Division's web content and social media strategy. Additional Division products and project deliverables may include proposals, conference presentations, journal articles, infographics, videos, and more.
